LS XU6168CPS, Kubota ZD1211 ZTR
Hi guys, new to TBN and looking for any info on a XU5065cps or XU6168CPS good or bad. I just sold my 2015 JD3038e and feel like JD quality has gone out the window especially on the E series. The M and R series are just to high priced. I just priced a Kubota L6060 and had my feelings hurt. A friend of mine told me to look at LS because you get more for you $. He looked at a XR4140 and was impressed. I'm mostly going to use this to mow and plant food plots. I need the tractor to have at least 10gpm hydraulic flow thru pump as I'm wanting to mount a mower to the FEL. Anyone with a 5065 or 6168 have you had any mechanical issues, hows the cab feel (comfort, ergonomics), and does the tractor have ample power. Is there anything about the controls you don't or do like (do they feel "cheap"). Would love to know if you have or can get a 3rd function on the FEL as the website is kinda vague. Dealer I called last week end did not have a cab LS on lot and hes over an hr away. Waiting on another dealer to call me back with what he has on the lot.

Thanks for any info
Kevin

I have a 6168CPS with the backhoe. Been flawless so far with 160 hours.
Here is a thread about my machine. I made a YouTube video about it to answer questions others had asked me about it. The video is linked a couples pages in.
6168 CPS first 50 hours

Hydraulic flow is 9.9 gpm, so it just meets your requirements.

3Lfarms, thanks for the info, nice looking tractor in video. I have one dealer with no cab tractors and another an hr away with couple XR models with cab. Like you said I don't like to buy sight unseen, I may have to take a trip to get a chance to sit in one before making my decision. Been reading up on the Mahindra 2565 last couple hrs, there is a dealer one block from the LS dealer I'm going to visit next week. This dealer carries LS and Masseys and has been in business for over 40yrs. From talking with several who have dealt with this dealership, they are great to deal with.

Definitely shop around. There is more to it than just picking the brand tractor you like best. I shopped around at every dealership within 200 miles. Within 200 miles I have 4 LS dealerships, one Kioti, one Mahindra/Branson, three JD (all the same company), 2 NH, 4 Kubota and one TYM dealership. Since I bought my machine, the Mahindra/Branson dealer dropped Mahindra and picked up LS, so there are now 5 LS dealerships.

I was looking for a 60-70 hp machine, so I kept the comparisons as close as possible.
I actually ruled the Mahindra out pretty fast. They didn’t have a new one, but they had a used 80ish hp model that he was pushing. It was almost 3 years old with only 85 hours on it. The old guy had bought it and then died 4 months later. The family didn’t want it, so they didn’t make payments, and it was eventually repossessed. I would have expected that machine to be basically new, but it was showing signs of cheapness. Things in the cab didn’t fit right. The collar around the steering wheel shaft didn’t fit the hole and it was just flopping around. I couldn’t see how it was damaged or abused, just poor quality. The ergonomics were pretty bad as well. Needless to say, I wouldn’t have rolled the dice on buying one. I also don’t care for the fact Mahindra doesn’t build all of their tractors themselves. Many models are just rebranded machines from around the world, and others are a built from different manufacturers parts. Their prices didn’t impress me at all either. At the time, I was also stuck by the percentage of posts in the Mahindra forum here on TBN about problems with their new tractor. It seemed like every other post was about a problem, where in all the other brand forums, the problem posts were few and far between. Most were just questions or look at my new tractor type stuff. Not very scientific, I know, but it was just one more thing against Mahindra.
If I hadn’t bought the LS, next probably would have been a Kioti. Once again, they didn’t have the cabbed 70ish hp machine In stock I was looking for. The smaller models were impressive and I liked the fit and finish, but their price was quite a bit higher then what the 3 nearest LS places were quoting me for a comparable machine. I have a feeling if there were more competition, they would have been better on the price. Service seems to be the only drawback with Kioti. Few dealerships, longer waits for parts, and in one famous case here on TBN, they canceled a guy’s warranty outright for what they called abuse. Not terrible good customer service, IMO.

I liked the Branson tractor a lot, but was afraid of being stuck with an orphan. I liked the Cummins clone, but the price didn’t offset the risk of being stuck without a dealership.
JD wouldn’t give me the time of day. They are large AG dealers and don’t seem to care about selling a utility tractor to a guy off the street.

While the Kubotas are nice, they are spendy and they nickel and dime you for everything. The other think I didn’t like was that Kubotas are shipped in a crate to the dealer where it and all the options you order are assembled. So the quality of your tractor really depends on how good the dealer service dept is. When I walked through the local dealer’s shop, I wouldn’t have allowed them to fix my wheelbarrow. It was a mess. If there was a dealer like Messicks out here, I would have looked much harder at Kubota.
I looked at NH, but most of the smaller machines are made by LS anyway. The price of a bare bones NH was equal to a cabbed LS. The only selling point was that NH dealership is large and has been there forever.

I also noticed pricing is pretty predictable based on advertising. I see and hear a lot of JD ads, Kubota is a close second, then Mahindra and finally Kioti. I have never seen (tv or print) or heard an LS advertisement ever. I figure marketing money has to be built into the tractors pricing. I know a lot of people think that the extra money they pay for a JD or Kubota means they got a better machine, but I don’t see it.

For me, in my area, the LS was the best deal going. I like that they now build the entire machine (engine included). I think the only exception now is the little MT125 which has a Yanmar engine. I like that they have won the dealership choice award for 4 years in a row. That is a sign that LS works hard to fix problems when they crop up and stands behind the product. LS seems to be growing pretty fast, and there are usually teething problems associated with that. Mostly, I think that shows up as lack of expertise in the service shops. It can take longer to diagnose a problem when you don’t see many failures. Personally, I’d rather have a flawless machine than a dealer that has tons of experience fixing my tractor.
Anyway, those are my thoughts on buying a new tractor in Utah. Your experience will undoubtedly be different. Good luck. If you have any questions, you can always pm me. I’m on here quite a bit.

P.S. Holy crap, I didn’t think I wrote that much. Sorry for the wall of text.

Well went to 3 dealerships today and sat in the cabs of Mahindra 2555, TYM 394, TYM 454, TYM 654, LS 4150c, Massey 1736, Kubota L5460, Kubota M7060. Mahindra is definitely out of the question, TYM 394 had good ergonomics but is to small for my needs. The other TYM's were like the Mahindra 2555 little uncomfortable to reach some of the controls, especially the joy stick. The LS 4150c was nice better made in my opinion but im 6'2" and 280lbs was a bit tight. They had a XU6168 on the lot but was locked up in the fence. Im going back this week to hopefully close a deal or see how long it would take to get a XU5065cps. All the L series Kubota have HST and im not a fan of it. The pedal was uncomfortable, joystick controls were spot on but don't have anywhere near the options the LS4150c had. I have 2 friends that purchased new L4760 this yr and they are having heat issues with them, after mowing for couple hours tractor overheats and they have to stop and remove screens to radiator and clean them. I got a quote on L6060 package deal (tractor, trailer, box blade, 6ft mower and FEL) for $49000 plus tax. The M7060 was $45900 plus tax with just a 7ft mower. LS package deals should come in a lot cheaper.

Hopefully this dealer is close in price to what I'm seeing on tractor house for the XU6168cps or XU5065cps if he can get one. Im only 2hrs from the LS assembly plant here in NC so I would think my cost would be cheaper than a LS tractor in the Midwest.

Howdy!

I wanted to add my 2 cents in (however small it may be) on this subject as I actually live in NC and bought a 5065CPS just this past December from a dealer here in NC.

Little background, I'm more of a hobby farm type deal (some horses and cattle), small acreage, etc. I got tired of moving roundbales by truck and rolling by hand so I figured I'd get one, of course I wanted a cab for how nasty NC heatwaves can get (and also for the fact that we've got a nasty stinging insect issue around my parts!).

I initially was looking at TYM brand from a dealer out in Salemburg, but wasn't quite sure for the longest time. That is until they had a sale on some of their LS models, (not sure if it's still going on), and fell in love with the 65HP cab model LS. We mostly move VERY heavy round bales with it, dirt/manure, pallets of concrete, etc. I've used a few attachments like a sprayer and spreader, box blade, etc as well.

In terms of comfort, I'm quite pleased with the cab. Everything feels like it is where it should be (except the parking brake, it's really a pain to get to). I like the 3 point controls for being able to rapidly drop and raise the 3 point with a lever in the cab (I should also add that my model has a control to raise/lower the 3 point from outside the cab too, VERY handy...Didn't know it was there until I was told about it).

No problems with the clutch when shifting up (or down) through the ranges, I do wish I had a hydrostatic for more precision work around the house as even at the lowest gear and range it can be a bit tricky feathering that clutch when needing to move tiny amounts.

Power shuttle is VERY nice when needing to do loader work, although it seems to have a bit of a delay it feels like when shuttling between forward and reverse.

AC is cold, visibility is great. Loader lift height is a bit of a gripe, I can stack two round bales on end, with a 3rd smaller one if I angle things just right. In terms of loader capacity, it has handled everything I've thrown at it including a very overloaded pallet of 80lb concrete bags (granted it did feel a bit sketchy!).

I'm at 40 hours now, no major issues. There is a rattle on the exhaust housing somewhere that I've been too lazy to track down. I had a weird issue with the clutch giving me an error code about needing adjustment but it no longer shows up, I assume it was pedal related.

I'm quite surprised at how little diesel this thing uses with full AC running, I've not had to really put it through its paces with full power for the PTO yet but I've heard it's not that much more.

My dealer tossed in the Sony audio upgrade, it's nice but no bluetooth so I'll probably be swapping it so I can use my phone.

Nothing else I can think of comes to mind on this tractor right now, I'm quite pleased with it but I'm only using it a few hours each month so I might not be the best use case, but it does seem like there are few people that comment about this specific model.

Hope it helps :)

**EDIT**

Looks like ya already bought an LS! Congrats! I'll leave this up though in case anyone else comes along :)

I ended up getting my 6168 from Burgaw, was wanting the 5065 for the little bit better GPM flow on hydraulics but dealer had the 6168 on lot and he said that LS was not producing as many 5065. Dealer said he could locate a 5065 for me but after testing the 6168 I really liked it. I went one sunday to Salemburg but was not impressed with set up based on first observation. Its a cross road and guy has a tractor lot, across rd is a used car lot, and other side of intersection is a convenience store with the tractor "service" dept behind it. A lot of red flags went up when I saw this. Also at the time Salemburg did not have a cab LS on the lot just TYM.

NC guys who did you buy your XU's from? I'm looking for a 50-60 hp utility size open station gear tractor. I was leaning toward NH but the L1 gear is too fast for what I need. They supposedly are switching to a 12x12 trans but who knows when they will be available. I'm just outside of Burlington, not sure who the closest dealer is. Please recommend a dealer. Thanks
