In the continuing quest to make up to the wife for having overspent on the posthole digger, and the fact she has a major birthday around the corner, I am thinking of putting together a greenhouse.

Any ideas, thoughts, suggestions? I will have to prudent financially, keep it to cedar and plastics (no glass) but I think this could be a fun project...

You might want to consider a high tunnel. They are relatively inexpensive and very versatile.

Women don't phrases like "major birthday", it reinforces the concept of getting old. You'll need a bigger tractor to fill in the hole you're digging for yourself. Say something like "looking forward to an anniversary of our lives together".

I bought a greenhouse from Harbor freight. All aluminum and plastic panels. Very reasonable in price and it is going on its third year with no problems. 8'x12' --has vents and automatic openers.

I wondered if they were any good. HF hasn't been very good for me but for a few simple items. I'll never buy anything electrical from them again. Mueller metal buildings now have a kit that is fairly reasonable.

I picked these up from Oregon Valley Greenhouses and they were great people to deal with. You dont have to do raised beds, you can just put them up over an existing garden spot. For Texas you would probably want one with roll up sides. I would think you could grow year round in Texas with one of these.
