Just curious...

I've been doing a fair amount of mowing late into the evening with my L5030HSTC and have noticed that the front & rear factory work lights are barely sufficient. Actually, the rears are fine, but the front units don't light up much, and aren't much of a complement to the headlamps in a dark field. Don't get me wrong, I can see, but not much farther than the end of the hood.

Anyway, I was going to see what sort of bulb is in the Knight-Beam brand lights, but the parts manual indicates a 27W bulb, which I suspect is just an incandescent. As such, I'm probably going to look at replacing the lights with some trapezoidal 55W halogens, and was curious if anyone had gone this route? If I really had my druthers, I'd add an additional set of spot lights up front, to really light things up out in front of the tractor. That, along with a set of trapezoidal work lights, and the headlamps, would be really nice. However, I doubt the factory wiring would support the load.

Oh, yeah, final question. Are the headlamps replaceable as well? The parts manual seems to indicate that they are 27W as well, but I'm guessing they are probably halogens, so replacements would be readily available.

Any & all suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks! :)

On my L4200 I replaced the front and rear work lights with 55W halogens, They were from an auto parts place, clear lens fog lights as I recall… They work very well, BUT you are right about the factory wiring not being heavy enough. I do not use the front and the rear lights together… They share the same factory power wire. I have not needed the rear along with the front so that has not been a problem… I have always planned to run another power line to the top of the cab when ever I am next inside the outer roof… That will take care of things but you are on the right track.. (2) 55 watt in front and (2) 55’s in the rear really light things up. KennyV.
