Re: anybody put a brushog mower into a truck??

I was able to fit a Woods R105 (5') cutter and a Land Pride 1560 (5') cutter in a full-size long bed truck (but not at the same time). One side was on the floor and the other was on the fender well. Add a couple of straps and you are set to go.

I transported a 4' in back with the tailgate down... and a 6' over the rails (with a wood frame underneath & bedliner over the rails)

Depending on what loader you have... also keep in mind while loading... what will be the easiest way to unload... and load accordingly... (obviously transportation safety comes first!)

I failed to mention, a farmer bought my 6' cutter and came with a 3/4 ton to pick it up... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif (definitely a farm field vehicle /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif)

The bed was on its last legs (along with the rest of the truck)... he wanted it diagonally placed in the bed...(I told him he was /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif...) but he insisted...

I wish I took a picture (who me?)... as he drove down the road back home and his truck bed sides were slightly sprung out like a W...

That night I watched the news... but he wasn't on it... so I'm assuming he made it back home... /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

ok so i,m confused.i have a new 3/4 ton [dodge]should i put it in at a angle[one edge up on truck rail]or install 2x4's across the rails and set in on the 2x4's?

I think I would pick up four C-clamps and put a 2X4 all the way down each rail and then put a cross piece fore and aft. The long ones down the rails would distribute the load better. The tin is so light in these new rigs that I would be aftaid of dinging it by just having a couple of cross pieces.
Personally, I have gone to flatbeds. Just as cheap to operate, and you don't have to worry about tearing up the paint.

BWS,

I picked up my cutter in the back of my 3/4 Dodge before I had a trailer, I set a pallet under the side that sat on the bed rail.
the hard part is unloading it when you get home if you have to do it alone it a job. I used the guys backhoe next door.
The 2/4 idea is a good one but how new is your truck? Could you stand a possible dent, you can rent a truck with a nice flat bed at Home depot for 20.00 for 90min. or they rent trailers cheep also.

Just some more Ideas to think about.

I would be very careful with that $35,000-$40,000(???) new truck--It May best to invest in a small trailer rather than take a chance on scratching that new Dodge. I know when I get the first dink on a new truck, I never have the same good feeling about my truck?? I like to protect my investment as long as I can. I may just be from the "old school" way of thinking.--Ken Sweet

PUt the cutter in the bed of your truck longwise with the 3pt attachment pointing to the rear. One side of the cutter can rest on the floor and one side on the wheel well. This will preserve the bed of your truck.

When unloading (with the tailgate down) drive up to the cutter and place the cutting edge of your bucket against the cutter frame just above the hitch pins; keep the bucket slightly dumped. Then hook one end of a chain to the top pin and the other end to the hook in the center of your bicket (if equipped). If no hook on bucket try the cross brace on the loader frame. Once secured, gently curl the bicket and raise the loader. The cutting edge will support the cutter and the frame will keep it from swinging.

I have moved and loaded/unloaded implements like this 100's of times; it is the easiest way I have found. I will post pictures tonight.

You can rent a small U-haul trailer for half a day for less then $25. It's low to the ground, easy to load into and best of all.....it already has lots of dings and scratches. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
