anybody know where to get hydraulic seal kits beside the dealer

First off, i dig this site, no pun intended. I am a owner operator new to the site ,but already it has helped alot.You guys rock! That being said ,i have been a operator off and on for 20 yrs now but have always left the fixing up to the shop mechanic .Now i am a owner of a 99 John Deere 210le which has a leaking bucket cylinder can anyone recommend a place i can get a seal kit besides John Deere, I am trying to save money but I dont want to do it if I wont get the same quality product.Any direction would help thanks guys.

How much is it at the dealer? Many times its hard to beat OEM for quality, fit and price.

That said, if you have a decent, industrial hydraulic supply house in town (most larger towns do) you should be able to mix and match what you need or even get a complete aftermarket set.

Harbor Freight has O-ring kits, standard or Metric, Pretty cheap.
Get the Viton version...

Your best bet is to take apart the cyl, then search out a local competent hydraulic repair shop

bring in the seals and have the cyl all taken apart with you (including the nut/bolt at the end of the rod)

Buy an extra seal kit in case you bug up one seal.....if not then you'll have a spare for another cyl

JD has much more than orings in their kits......using Viton doesn't help unless it reaches extreme heat (which it does not)

I have bought JD seal kits before, and they are quite spendy. And yours is an industrial machine where the
kit for one cylinder is over 100 clams.

Now, I go to
Hydraulic cylinder repair seals and kits-Hercules Sealing Products - Hydraulic Seals and replacement cylinders for construction and many other heavy equipment industries.

You can download the full PDF catalog and buy by size and type. If it is too tedious to accurately
measure the bad seals, find a hyd shop who will sell you the seals by size/type.

Sometimes you can order seals for your cylinder without tearing it down first, as in JD, you just order the seals for the machine and they should come and be the right ones.

Where I live, I can take cylinders to a general repair shop that has cylinder experience. They take it apart, give me the old seals in a plastic bag and direct me to a seal warehouse fifty miles away. I take the seals in, they match em, I leave with the right stuff and head back to the shop where they put it all back together. Some seal work requires a hefty bench with the capability to push or pull as the need arises. I save on their shop time because I run for the parts. They are happy, I am happy.
