I found a great series of posts here http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/build-yourself/83999-creating-simplified-landscape-rake.html on building a landscape rake.

There were some good construction ideas and a souce for low cost tines, but in the 2 years since those posts, the named source of tines - Agrisupply - no longer sells any type of tine like the ones mentioned. That is according to a nice lady on the phone that spent quite a while looking.

The original tines from Agrisupply were $3 and $5. Landpride sells replacement tines now for $15 each. I know steel costs have gone way up in the last 2 years, but $15 is crazy.

I want to rake up small patches of cut hay, so maybe I should start looking at other types of tines or whatever they would be called.

Any sources of low cost tines or other ideas would be valued.

Better check again.

Agri Supply - Where we have Something for Everyone for your Farm Shop & Home

The Agri Supply website is a bit strange. If you put in a search for "tine" you get nuttin for a landscape rake. Put in a search for "landscape rake tine" and you'll get it.

I got my tines from them and have bought other stuff also. For me, their service, delivery time, and price have always been good.

Good luck (and tell them to fire the lady you talked to on the phone ;)).

TSC sells replacement tines for NH rakes for $1.39 or so. Why not bolt a row of these to an angle iron and strap it to your toolbar (loader bucket, 3pt hitch links, 4 wheeler, lawn mower, large dog, wife or fat kid).

Maybe I was doing something wrong, but using a landscape rake trying to rake up hay/grass didn't work so good.

Stuff kept balling up and rolling right under the tines.

Wow, thanks you guys!

I tried your link cuoffroad, and sure enough, there they are! I can see why the lady couldn't find one of them anyway based on the part number I gave her, because the original poster mixed up the number. I'll have to call them tomorrow to see if I can get more details on them.

zzvyb6- do you mean these?

And yes, making something simple is what I have in mind. I can mount whatever type of tines
or teeth on a piece of angle to mount on my box scraper. That's what I did with this rebar
toothed, arena groomer I made for my wife.

I was posting at the same time as you apparently.

I'm glad you brought that up. It makes sense. There must be a reason that hay rakes use what they use.

I think my design just shifted gears.

Thanks!
