The job I'm on just got a bunch delivered, and they forgot to do the ends.

Yup, used to do it all of the time for coping recuts or curved wall caps. Im used to doing 2 inch material. You will need an oxy act torch with a heating tip, the biground one with 8 or so holes. Run your flame hot and use a sponge to dampen the material right before you flame it in sections. It should crackle and snap and pop of tiny peppercorn sized shallow flakes. If you dont dampen the surface or hold the torch too long you risk blowing off a sizable chunk. I suggest a few practice runs on extra materal or the backside of your treads.

Thanks for the info. I only have a small welding/cutting setup, so I'll let somebody else deal with it.

You can always give it a try on a scrap piece to see if it works... Its not too hard to get the hang of. But if you have a ton to do might be a good idea to hire out. Good luck.
