Hey guys, I currently have an CC LT1050 and an Ingersoll 4016 that I use to cut the grass around the house (About 2 or 3 acres with a walkout basement and quite a bit of slope). I use the CC to make a few passes around the yard and cut around the trees because it handles much better than the Ingersoll, then switch over. I have heard of issues with the 1000 series transmissions and worry about using it on the slope for the walkout, so I was looking to trade up. I found a newer, very low hour GT2554 I was looking at, the transmission seems better suited to what I use it for. In looking at online reviews there were alot of complaints about the hood brackets breaking, the deck wheels falling off and engines backfiring. Not sure if these are real/current issues or just a vocal minority. Any current or past owners out there with any feedback ?

Hi, we have a 2550 which is the same tractor only diff is the 50" deck. That tractor your considering has a drive shaft as opposed to a belt drive so it will handle the slopes. As far as the other issues yes I've heard the stories but none of them were real show stoppers.

There's 2 screws under the hood against the fire wall, kind of hard to see unless you squat and look for them...they need periodic tightening. Always hand guide the hood up and down. I've had a few minor issues but they all had work-arounds. If the price is right I'd get it...my 2 cents.

just say'en....it seems to me the Ingersoll 4016 is also up to the job.

Have a Gt2550 , upgraded from a HDS2155 , so far no problems runs and cuts well.
The major problems I read appear to be the early model Gt2550 and they all appear to have been fixed during the model run.
Any early model may have experienced those problems and should have now been overcome.

Saveageactor7, you're right, the Ingersoll 4016 is up to the job. It's a great machine except for turning radius. I use the Cub on the border and around all the trees, then out comes "The Beast". It runs, rides and cuts great, just lacking in handling :)

I' on my 3rd season with my GT2550 and I have no complaints. If it was built after 2008, I think the deck was redesigned to have a wider discharge chute. Mine never clogs and rarely leaves a clump. I too had a LT1042 before and there is no comparison. The 2500 series has a much heavier drive train and really puts the power to the ground.
