Tractor
2000 New Holland TC29D with 7308 FEL, and top & tilt. 1950 John Deere B. 1940 Farmall A.
I am moving (back) to Colorado! I moved there once in 1992 and lived in Buena Vista for a couple years and The Springs for a few years, then moved to Indiana in 1997. After 10 years in southern Indiana, I have accumulated various tractor implements. I'm trying to get an idea from some current CO tractor owners what kind of implements I should take with me. My new job is in Golden and I'm hoping to live in the foothills west of there and hopefully get a home on a couple acres. I'm on 6 acres now, but I realize real estate is much higher in CO, so I don't expect to have 6 acres. Some of the areas of interest are Morrison, Indian Hills, Conifer, Evergreen, etc.

I have a 6' finish mower, 5' bush hog, 5' tiller, post hole digger, 4' lawn roller, pallet forks, rear blade, boom pole, and 32" rear dirt scoop. I'm planning to take the TC29D with FEL and keep the rear blade for sure (for snow!). The pallet forks and boom pole would probably also come in handy. Now that I have a FEL I'll sell the rear dirt scoop. It's the rest of the things I'm not sure about. I don't plan on doing any gardening, since I'll probably be at too high altitude. Here in IN, the tiller has been very handy for landscaping, but I don't know if I'll get enough use there. The post hole digger has been handy for planting trees, but it may be too rocky there for it to be useful. I'm sure I won't have a 3 acre yard like I do now, but might have enough to make it worth keeping the finish mower. I don't know about the brush hog or the lawn roller.

So, I guess my question to CO tractor owners is "what implements do you have and use?"

Thanks, Danny

Pretty hard to tell what you will need without knowing what you will end up buying. I can see your problem. That is a lot of equipment to ship and I guess I would have to look at what it will cost to move it compared to selling and replacing. I can remember a discussion about how much horsepower is lost per thousand foot gain in elevation. It took a lot more horse power to do the same work at 8000 feet than 1000 above sea level. Would it be worth considering the selling of your current tractor and implements, replacing with new at the new location? Maybe shipping is not much of an issue if your employer is paying relocation cost.

Thanks. My new employer is paying for the move. The limitations are 1 personal vehicle plus 18k lbs. I have a meeting with the mover this afternoon to find out what they will move and how much it will cost to move what's not covered in the standard package. I also will be going on a "house hunting" trip in the next few weeks and should have a better idea of the situation after that. My post hole digger is already sold, I just didn't see much of a need for it (didn't use it much here actually). I haven't really considered selling the tractor, since I bought it new and have taken good care of it and it's like new. I don't know if I can afford another new one.
