Planning on re-mounting the mmm this weekend after storing for winter snow plowing. It came off easy...but it was just so darn heavy! Are there any tips for getting it back on with a minimum of skinned knuckles and swearing?

I generally take mine on and off at least once a week during the summer season. It has never really bothered me.

Get the little 3-wheel casters under the anti-scalp wheels (or a short custom dolly under the deck...there are many threads) so you don't have to "turn" them...makes things MUCH easier. Once you do that, you should have it on and off in under 3 minutes.

Just be sure the locking collar on the shaft is LOCKED. Someone had it pull free not too long ago and with the inertia of the blades, it did many hundreds of dollars of damage before stopping.

For me, getting the deck itself hooked up is no trouble. Half my time is spent spinning the blades ever so slightly to get the shaft spline on the locking collar to mate up with the forward facing PTO spline. That's the real pain for me and there ain't no dolly to make that easier. Just need to break a little sweat.

I had a bx23 for a couple of years and not until the day b4 I sold it did I find an easy way to get the mmm on. put the pto shafts together and slide the mower under the tractor. push it under and instead of it being perpendicular to the tractor, angle the mower so that one of the sides(the anti scalp wheel) is starting to go between the front wheels of the tractor. The pto shaft will still reach and this will give you room to get your body under the machine and work to put the quick couple connection on the mid pto. I also found that the quick coupler on the shaft did not have to be pushed the whole way back against were the pto housing because if I did that, the ring would not snap into the lock position. I would then lower the mid linkage, attach and then attach the front. Worked well for me, just wish I would have figured it out sooner. With the BH on you also could lift the machine up a little with the stabilizers to get more clearance. Hope this helps a little! They are great machines!!!!:D :D :D

My experience with the collar is different than that of my friend Keith. For me, the secret is NOT to break a sweat. When the collar is being difficult, relaxing the touch and going with a lighter finesse is what works (as I said before-for me; your experience may differ).

Here's a description of technique and 2 pics of my dolly:

Boogerman, thanks for that suggestion. It should indeed provide much needed room to work more effectively. I shall give that a try.

Some of the guys suggested laying down a piece of 2x6" , driving over with the back wheels. The extra clearence helps.

The easiest way I found is to drive up next to the mower deck , then put two tie straps the hooks one around each anti scalp wheel put the straps under the tractor get on the other side of the tractor and pull the deck under it it work easy less an 5 min's to hook it all up
