Any Thoughts On Allis-Chalmers Plows?

I am going this week to look at a A-C plow, 4btm. 18in, semimount, hyd reset and hyd sidehill. The owner says it's in good shape. I don't know anything about these plows, checked them out on Tractor House but they only had three for sale. Are they a good, well built, reliable plow? I am also checking on a IH 720 5btm, 18 in. set up the same as the A-C but I'm afraid it might be getting to long and hard to manuever for the size of my fields.
Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.

I'd start with a call to the nearest AGCO dealer. See if parts are still available for that plow. And while you have their ear, ask them if they know the history and age of that model. (I THINK you're probably talking about a "387" model plow????) The AC name more or less disappeared quite a while back. Not sure how old that plow is. AGCO is a collection of several brand names. Allis Chalmers, White/Oliver/Cockshutt/Minneapolis Moline, Massey Ferguson, Hessten, ect. During the transitional period (1980's, early 90's) you might buy a product with one brand on it that was made by another of AGCO's list. The best you could hope for would be that plow being made by White/Oliver. They built the best plows made.
