John Deere X730
I need a small brush cutter and possibly a stump grinder, and was wondering if my X730 could power such an attachment. 25 hp twin, rear 3 point hitch and pto is available for it.

The 3pt has a lift capacity of 450 lbs 1 foot behind the pivot. That ought to be enough to handle a 42" or maybe 48" rotary cutter. With 25hp at the engine figure about 20 at the PTO. That's enough for a small rotary cutter. I used to use a 42" behind a Kubota B7100HST with about 13 pto hp and it did ok. However the grass doesn't grow more than a couple feet here. I used it for grass and brush.

Most 3pt stump grinders use hydraulics to move the grinder across the stump. Woodland Mills has an inexpensive one without hydraulics- you move the tractor instead. In videos it looks like it shakes the tractor pretty hard and it's a much larger tractor than yours. I don't think it'd be a good idea.

If/when you do find an implement for the X370, ensure that it fits a Cat 0 3PH. Your 3PH may say that it's Cat 1 (limited), but that's just saying that some Cat 1 implements can be fitted... with a LOT of cursing & swearing & raising the back end of the tractor IOT eventually get the Cat 1 into position. Even then, you'll only be able to raise it a few inches.

There is a TBN Member/Advertiser who specialises in Cat 0 implements. Offhand, I can't remember his name. :(

Oh, and g'day Mate and welcome to TBN from Downunder.

Enjoy the site.

I have several 3pt implements for my x749 and am satisfied with the usefulness for close quarters work. I have used the pto for a tiller and chipper which worked well. You should be able to handle a brush mower 42" to 48". I would skip the purchase of a stump grinder for two reasons. Cost of the stump grinder is high and if you have enough stumps to warrant the purchase a much larger one would be a better choice. So I might buy the brush mower but would rent the stump grinder. Which stump grinder size to rent would depend on the size of the job.

Following.

5HP per foot on a bush hog, you may get away from running a 5ft pull behind bush hog on that tractor.

Something like this, would help get around the weaker 3pt lift capacity.

Thanks for all the replies gentlemen, much appreciated. Any brands of brush mowers anyone can recommend. My local JD/Mahindra dealer doesn't have anything to recommend for me.

Most will be OK. You will have to watch the weight so you won't be looking for a HD unit to start with. My local Craigslist is full of decent 4 footers for about $400.
