New Holland TC 40A
I test drove a TC 45A (sold all of the 40A models) today at my local dealer. I really liked the tractor, but I asked him about the plastic/fiberglass fenders and he said some of his customers had broken the fenders off. He said it was rare but he said it did happen. Has anyone here had the same problem?

Guess what you're saying is quite possible if you drop a tree on the tractor

I have seen lots of non-metallic Corvettes through the years and I still haven't seen a one with broken fenders that wasn't wrecked, yet they are driven in the dead of winter

The advantage the plastic or fiberglass fenders is that when something does strike the fender there is a little give therefor no denting. The blue color is all the way thru the material so there is no discoloration when there is a scratch. The material is not going to show rust or have paint issues like pealing off of paint the fenders and hood have held up really well.

Biggest cutomer complaint is when they do something stupid and let something ram the front of the hood and break that area that is below the black grill portion. Remedy for that is spend the $200 extra and have the really neat grill guard installed.

Over two years of use and no problems with the plastic fenders.

I have a small chip out of the left fender where a limb got caught between the wheel and the fender. It's a slight cosmetic problem and nothing more. I LOVE the fiberglass and plastic on this tractor so far. It's a great product that holds its color very well despite being out in the sun most of the time.

@ first I thought steel would be better - however I've found the plastic flexes & bounces right back when I think steel would dent permanently. Overall I like the plastic, Have about 140hrs so far w/no problems.

I guess things are different on class IV Boomers. My TC55DA plastic doesn't have the color all the through. The plastic hood and fenders are painted. Fenders have a white primer underneath.

I can't speak for the hood, but for sure my fenders are fiberglass. The color definitely does not go all the way through. Where mine is busted, little white/grey fibers are hanging out. However, I have some pretty bad scratches from limbs and I've never seen white primer. That leads me to believe the paint or "coating" is pretty thick. I think some tractors use molded plastic, but I believe ours are predominantly fiberglass.

My classII is an 01... while it doesnt have a ton of hrs on it... there seems to be little to nothing wrong with the "plastic" fenders.
