We just got a new puppy and were wondering what anyone's experience with pet insurance was?

Like most insurance it is a safety net, but some are as low as $99/yr and will cover atleast that much at times..

Just wondering

Pet health insurance only covers specific areas, so you will still be paying for the veterinary expense. It is a gamble that your dog stays healthy and you don't need it, like most insurance. If your pet gets sick and the illness is one that the insurance covers, then you will save a bundle of money. Today, veterinary fees have skyrocketed from the little that I have seen. I can't speak of specifics, since I haven't paid a veterinary bill in over 30 years. My best friend is a veterinarian and he takes care of my dogs for gratis. The only time that he said he will ever charge me is if one of them tangles with a porcupine. The last dog was drawn to them like magnets.:( If I had to pay, I would purchase the insurance.
I know of no life insurance for dogs, but it probably exists somewhere for some of the show dogs.

My wife works for a vet. They frequently work with VetCentric and VPI for insurance coverage.

She also says they work with CareCredit a lot.

According to an article I read on health insurance, the companies pay out about 10% of their premiums for health costs and keep 90% for expenses. I think I would rather keep my insurance money in my own bank account and pay out 10% to the vet and keep 90%.

They have life insurance for pets also but the main ones who get it are horse owners. Last year they arrested a ring of people who specialized in killing horses to collect the insurance.

Your homeowners insurance should cover liability insurance for your dog. Some of the companies have riders that specifically exempt certain breeds because of temperament and previous bad experience with the breed.

The rider cost $$$. Put a claim in and up goes rates. The black list from some insurance companies is a complete joke. My comp does not matter the dog breed etc, temp etc. Just needs to know if had any bites. I laugh and say what titles of the dog do you want?
