Any one here raise and sell German Shepherd dogs?

I have 4 German Shepherds(3 are the DDR German Shepherd dogs)wonderful dogs.I was just curious if anyone else here raised the German Shepherds?

We don't raise them (yet). We do have a European GSD that is a police K-9. Most US police departments obtain their GSD's from Europe, because over there they are bred more for function, rather than form. Here in the US there seems to be some sort of fascination with the low-hipped, sloping back GSD, but this type of breeding introduces many hip problems into the dogs. And it typically utilizes line-breeding to acheive the "look", which also tends to accentuate genetic problems.

I take it from "DDR" you mean real German dogs. These make excellent working dogs, trainable for just about anything. If you have this type, selling to police departments might be a viable outlet for you. My wife's department paid $3,000 for her K-9, and that was with no training.

Thats what I am talking about(DDR).I have 1 male DDR and 2 females.The male I bought in Texas(his parents are straight from Germany)and I have 2 females that I bought and were directly imported to the States,they are all 3 approaching a year old,wonderful dogs.I am going to sell some pups next year,I was thinking of approaching some Police Depts. and asking them if they would be interested.

GSD's are wonderful, regardless of their heritage. They are some of the smartest dogs I have ever seen. Close seconds are Standard Poodles and Cattle Dogs (Australian Shepherds, Border Collies).

Seems like your best market would be local PD's.

We used to raise White geramn shepards, Many folks say they are unstable but weve nver had any troubles out of any but the male we had he was mistreated by a neighbor through the frence when we werent home. never liked any one out die my family except 2 neighbors. hed ride in anything that moved wheel barrow lawn tractor rear bucket on my old ford hoe the bucket on my 300 komatsu at work. anywhere hed fit. One time got 55miles from the house with my hoe an the trailer and looked in the rearveiw as he was poking his head from behind the rear tire.

I've got one GSD, one pit bull (trying to find a home for her, she adopted us) and a 3 month old Minature Pinscher The GSD is a great dog!

A lot of the misconceptions about GSD dogs being mean/unstable is the way they were raised from being a puppy to adulthood.They need to be well socialized in there uprbringing,I am trying to type this post with one hand because I am having to use my other hand to scratch the backs of two GSDs that have me surrounded and cannot seem to get enough attention./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

I know about the raisng of them, Never had any real problems just didnt like anybody out side the family because a fella came by one day we werent home and harrassed the him when he was a pup.. Just alot of people think WhiteGerman Shepards are problemmatic and hard to train. The only problem i had with Caesar was the idiots in town, when hed ride to town with me nimwitts would peck on the windows whilst i was inside or threw stuff at the truck. I like most every kind of dog but when i get another pup i d like to have another white shepard. Best reguards taylor

Do you have my house bugged? /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Thats is one of our
names for our GSD. That dog can put out more hair to shame
a flock of sheep. Its unreal. Her other name is The Nose
since she is always poking us with her nose. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif She
does it to smell but for goodness sakes does she have to
do it if I leave her sight for 30 seconds! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Of course
she is also My Shadow since she MUST be near me whenever
I'm home.
