Any ideas what to do with granite cut-out?

We recently took the plunge & renovated the kitchen. We kept the old cypress cabinets, but replaced the tile countertops with granite. Itç—´ a little over an inch thick - - it is the piece they cut out for the cooktop, about 2 x 4 in size. It is sitting outside, leaning against the deck & I know SWMBO will start on me to move it soon. Now that I said I wanted it, I am trying to figure out what to do with it. Any thoughts?

Build a "base" and put it on top for an outdoor table. You could also build it tall for a "bistro" table, then get a couple of tall chairs.

or, cut in in half for two matching tables.

It would make a nice surface for mixing bread or pastry. Perhaps a tad big, but that would be how we would use it.

If you have a wet saw the options are endless. You can cut a piece off to be used as a cutting board. Some silicone applied to the bottom will make it skid resistant while being used. I still have some pieces knocking around from my kitchen re-do. I did use one piece as the sill plate for the kitchen window over the sink.

These make wonderful tops for a rifle shooting bench. I put them on top of a bunch of hay bales at my backyard range. They are pretty heavy so they don't jiggle very much, yet you can move them as necessary to pick up a target card. My 50BMG and my 700Rem are on bipods and these tops work great to provide a stable platform. Add a sand or shot bag for the rear rest and bingo !

Since you already have granite countertops, it's unlikely that you'll need a granite cutting board. I like the idea of making trim pieces out of it. If you need a perfectly flat surface for any project, that granite will be ideal. Also, since it was cut out of your sink opening, you might make half of it a work surface that could be placed over 1/2 of the sink so it is recessed down slightly and would drain water into the sink. That would make a good preparation surface for vegetables or fruits, but might be too darn heavy to be practical.

If you "float" it on a concrete base it could make a nice surface plate in the shop. Could even be used to lap surfaces on if you didn't mind wearing it out over several years. It is just not good for dumping heavy sharp cornered objects onto, like engine blocks.

Had another thought, would make a nice matching "roll-a-round" type work station in the kitchen.

We added a small island in our kitchen as sort of a divider between the kitchen and dinning area. We had room for a trash compacter and a cabinet and drawer. In the top, we cut it out and put the top to our old portable dishwasher which had a cutting board top. If we redo our kitchen counter top we'll put the granite in place of the cutting board.
