Tractor
08' Kubota L3240 HST /cab
A friend of mine is going though a hard time right now( father pasted on ) and left him with acouple of tractors . One of these tractors has a log winch on it.
He really needs money right now and said he'd sell it . There is a tag with some stuff on it but don't know the brand name on it . It's old ,but works good. What I could read off it is : Elkemas Norway Model 3500/87 Pro.No.22464
34300 N 14450 N N-3160 stoke
This is what I could read off of it . I
looked on line to see if I could find out more with on luck .
Does anyone have any info on this or what it might be?
He said he a 1000 ,but would take less. This is on a old 50hp and my tractor is only a 32hp and only 25at the pto so it might be to big for my tractor ,also I have a cab and don't know if this would be a problem?

Any chance you can post a pic?
Cable size?
Brand of "tractor" with the winch?

Selling only the winch, or the tractor as well?

Is it mounted solid or on the 3 ph?

Sounds like it may be a Norse winch that was connected to the Elkem mfg. company in Norway.

Here is one on eBay that may (or may not) look like it, albeit is in the UK.

TIMBER EXTRACTION WINCH on eBay (end time 08-Sep-10 18:23:09 BST)

Thanks for your time.
He wants to sell both, but I'm only interrested in the
winch. This is on 3ph
The tractor is a M. F. 50hp
I looked at the site ,and it looks to be alittle diff. ,but I think your right on the make though .
If all is working ,do you think the price is right if I could pick it up for $800 ?
As far as pto goes, on my 25pto if I use 540 won't I be able to pull the potential of the tractor ?
I'm just not going to be able to pull the potential of the winch, if it needs a 40 or better pto speed right?

You are right. You should be able to use it and pull to your tractors potential. His tractor compared to yours should be able to pull twice as much, using the same PTO speed. It also means that if used on a lower HP tractor, that the winch should last longer. Some things may list min HP for proper operation

I think the price is right at $1000. If he needs the money, that would help him out the best.

Have him list it on Craigslist or eBay with pics, and at least try for the $1000.

And I think the winch will pull your tractor over before you run out of hp. It is a caution you need to keep in mind, as well as pulling straight away.

The cab shouldn't be a problem as in the way of the winch. It is more of a problem getting around in the woods. :)

Often, especially with winches, tractor HP is specified such that the tractor is properly matched to the winch for WEIGHT, not necessarily pulling power.

See if you can determine what winch this is, and what its pulling capacity is. That will tell you more about matching it to your tractor than pretty much anything else. A winch, under-matched to the tractor is a lot more dangerous than a winch over matched to the tractor (the tractor torque power can destroy the winch).

Also, there is no need to run your tractor at rpms to achieve 540 pto speed. With winching, OFTEN, "slower" is better than "faster".

I know that my tractor's peak torque is at 1,500 rpm engin speed. Therefore, I never run the engin speed over that when winching as safety is way more important than speed.

I have a Farmi 601 (13,200# pulling capacity). I generally run the tractor (Hesston 100 90) at 1,000 rpm or so for my winching jobs. I have yet to stall the tractor with the winch, but have exceeded the winch's pulling capacity several times. (Typically happens with a snag, where the clutch capacity gives out). My tractor, with loader, loaded rear tires and the winch, exceeds 20,000 pounds. That weight, parking brake on, with the dozer blade on the winch dug in, and the loader bucket firmly planted, provided substantially more resistance than the winch's clutching capacity, without exceeding the cable strength.

I found out that it is a Norse 3500 modle ,and looked it up on Welcome to Labonville.com - Logging Supplies and Safety Apparel
I still could use some help if anyone is willing to see if this would work on my tractor(L3240) It only has 25at the pto though, and as far as the weight goes ,do you think its to much?
