Any hints/tricks to finding used 3pt Implements?

I'm just curious how someone goes about find used 3 pt. implements? (or do people never sell their 3pt equipment without the tractor?) I'd like to pickup a box blade and scraper, but I'm only going to use them occasionally, so a used set would be fine. Any idea's? I've tried everything I can think.

It can be tough to find used implements that are still in good shape - you're right, they are often sold with a tractor. But it can be done.

Having said that, I haven't had much luck finding them myself. I have looked at the resources suggested in this thread, and they're useful, but the problem is often that when you add shipping to the cost of the implement you're talking $$$ that is awfully close to new (or close enough that I would personally prefer not to risk the money on something that may have been used hard or poorly maintained).

One thing that sometimes works is to just keep your eyes open. Around here people often just put stuff out in the front of their places with a sign on them, and I've seen a few good deals. Problem with that is that by the time I've gotten back to 'em the implement is gone /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif. Local papers occasionally list things like that as well, but the same thing applies - if it is a really good deal there's folks like you and me waiting to snap 'em up.

I do alot of backhoe work for folks and welding work and it gets around. I often have folks trafe out work or give stuff top me to get it gone. also i looked behind tractor and implent dealers for trade ins and demo units

You are correct about shipping from east to west coast. Pretty steep on shipping. However from central Ky, we can ship a 2 bottom plow, 5 ft lift disc and 5 ft box blade to surrounding states for less than $125 and no sales tax--Most of our customers tell us they have spent that much in fuel in the search for 2 or 3 implements at the right price--We are working on a deal to get equipment to the west coast with more reasonable shipping rates. We anticipate having this in place before next spring.--Ken Sweet

Sorry Ken - I didn't mean to discourage anyone from working with you. I know you've been around for quite a while and are very helpful. It is too bad there aren't more dealers like yourself around. Its just that those darn implements are so heavy that shipping gets pricey when you go a long way, and I don't know of anyone out here that does what you do. Again, I didn't mean to try to suggest that they discount the service that you provide - I've checked out your site and wished that shipping to me weren't such an issue or I'd be a customer, I'm sure...Chris

Most of the farm equipment dealers in this area take used equipment in trade, and sometimes are willing to sell them seperate. Auctions are a big sport here also, farm equipment is not ruled out. Then there are the estate sales, where some farmer dies, and the family auctions off his equipment, etc.
