To all, I am interested to hear if anyone has tried one of the new 550 UTV's from John Deere. I am thinking of getting one for my dad. He has an 825I with a configured "smart key" system, but with his age and mild memory issues it is really a bit much machine for him. He does not need to go fast, so the power of the 550 should be adequate if I can get the price I want. I have three or four people looking at the 825I, so it should be no problem to sell. In that machine's size (the 550) I think the Polaris mid size is a more featured machine but I like the fact my dealer will deliver and pick up for service and will take care of my dad, so I am planning to stick with JD if the 550 machines have been good so far. There is an advantage to that sized machine. My parents have a gate leading into their backyard and field and the 550 will fit but the 825I will not and dad has to drive 1/2 mile around to get in and even then he cannot access but a portion of the area.

I am interested in the 550 as well. I curently have a gator cx that I purchased for my 83 year old mother to drive back and forth to the chicken coup. For a small utv, it's quite capeable. I am yet to see a 550 in person, but I'm guessing from your comment that it is smaller than the other utvs.

my dealer has a regular cab version as well as the crew version of the 550. I've only seen it up close and looked it over, didn't drive it or anything. the regular cab version is about the size of a Ranger 400/500 from what I can tell. these also seem to run in the $8,000 range according to the flyer I got in the mail from Deere the other day. I also think they're offering 0% for 60 mo but not totally sure, so don't quote me on that. I just remember the financing being the best on the Gators that I've ever seen. They don't seem to be cheapened down and should serve your father very well! They aren't tanks like the larger Gators though, but should be very easy to get around in tight places. If I were looking for a small size UTV the 550 would be in the running for sure.
