I have a 34" Muratori rotary tiller...bought it brand new. The problem is that 2 of the flanges which the tines bolt to are bent.
I have hit a few rocks here and there, but didn't think any were substantial enough to bend the flanges! Has anyone had problems with this (or other brand)tillers?
thanks

I have a 72" Muratori and have used it to till probably 5 acres since last fall. Unit is well built and does a great job on the soil. I've unearthed rocks up to 18 x 10 x 10 inches (yeah, we sure noticed that one!), so far without doing any harm to the tiller or the tractor.

You are the only one who knows your soil conditions and how you have been running the tiller. I always run in low range and slow, and try to be real quick with the clutch and the 3-point when a rock gets in the thing. With uncut ground, I either like to use a disc first or first make a shallow pass, then a second, deeper one.

Were all the flanges straight when you first got it, or is it possibly something that got damaged in shipment?

Those tillers sure seem like they take a beating, don't they?

Thanks , Grandad! I know I've hit more than a few rocks, but only a couple seemed large enough to do much damage--and I thought I had stopped the tiller in time to prevent that. ...maybe not?
Anyway, Thanks for the reply! I was surprised to see that you live in G'boro! I'm just SE of you in Julian!

Leinbach in Winston-Salem is the distributor. You both know where Peters-Creek PKY is?

Hi, Tony! I also bought the tiller at Leinbach's toy store.

Seems odd that a flange on that tiller would bend and not damage any of the tines. Looks like they were intended to be the weakest link... my tiller came with several spares.

One of my youngest son's bud's from high school runs that feed mill down there in Julian, but I have only passed through once or twice myself. Sure seems like a nice little community. We are trying to clear and fix up some property in Summerfield, north of town.

I was surprised too...the tines seem to be in good shape--haven't needed to use any of the spares but the flanges are definitely warped...enough that I had to remove a couple of tines to prevent them from banging the tiller housing!

I'm only 3 miles from Julian Mill; my wife's aunt lives just across the RR tracks from it! /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif
