So we've had Carrot Top (and yes, for the sake of humiliating him, I'm going to show his picture!!)
Anyway, without counting, we've had him for say, 10 years. Indoor/outdoor having his own cat door in a window he can come/go as he pleases.
For company, we have three (now two, RIP Otis) dogs. Carrot would go out with us when we took the dogs out. Almost like he thought he was a dog.
Though he's got the run of the house, he's primarily restricted to the (finished) basement.
Walking through room one day and squish.... stepped into something that not only soaked my foot, but smelled.
Long story short and cutting to the chase, he has very suddenly decided that he was going to use the basement shower (the one I use) as his personal toilet (urination). After I noticed what he did, we keep that door closed. Now he will yell, scream and bang on the door to get in there. I shoo him out the front door....he comes back through the window to try to get into shower. Back out the front, back through the window.
Getting exasperated with this, I put him out the front door and LOCKED his window so he can figure it out.....that which he's been perfect with for 10 years.
We finally got him a litterbox. Put it in my office. The litter REALLY smelled. Not a stink but a fragrance that was just blech... so we put the litterbox OUTSIDE so he can use it.
As this has unraveled, it seems he's REALLY fussy..... maybe he'll go out to his litterbox (if we toss him out), maybe he'll walk on past it. Looks like if it's dirty at ALL he snubs it in favor of the shower if he can get in there OR, the rug (small) in front of the french doors going into that bathroom which brings back "The Squishy Foot Syndrome"
He's a freaking angel, loves people, LOVES to curl up on your lap, LOVES for you to scratch his chin but he is pretty insistent.... "I AM going to pee either in your shower or, on the rug next to the door"
I've told my wife he's finally beating us down.... we might have to bring his litter box inside (she HATES it inside as he can be messy with it and get litter all over the place)
We're really perplexed.... He's been to the vet for general checkups (not since he's started this) and always been very fit & trim.
I'm dumbfounded as to what might have snapped in his head to make him start this.
Any thoughts?
Here's the perp!!
It would be nice if i could teach him to use the toilet he was so fond of!!
