The Greenville signal (97.3) isn't that strong. Try 88.7 if you can't get the Greenville signal. The host, Dennis Jones, does a great job in providing historical background on the performers, especially the pioneers (Bill Monroe, Jimmy Martin, the Stanleys, etc.)

Thanks for the tip. Although 15 miles from Greenville, we can see the antennas on top of Paris Mountain from our property. I don't know if 97.3 broadcasts from there or not, but being on a hill, we should get one of 'em.

My wife's cousin is an avid bluegrass player (mandolin) doing older stuff, like 'brother's music' which is an early forerunner. He also plays in a professional group in NYC of all places.

Another fan here brother! I think I already placed a link to them here before, but a local to me group is making sure the younguns' keep it going. Lots of God-given talent in these "kids".

Snyder Family Band - Featuring Samantha & Zeb

I've seen them on "Song of the Mountains," a PBS show out of Virginia that airs on NC's PBS stations. A talented duo of youngsters for sure.

Where is your farm in NC? My wife and I have a place in Mitchell County and like to go to some of the local shows and concerts they have. Recently saw a group called Balsam Range. They put on a great show with a good mix of bluegrass, gospel, and "old country". Even the local groups have some great musicians. We enjoy listening to bluegrass on the radio and are familiar with the NPR show but there is nothing like listening to it live in the small venues where you are up close.

Nolefan,

I'm not sure that we should be communicating. I graduated from NC State and Virginia Tech and taught at Clemson.:)

Are the 'Noles going to take down Miami tomorrow?

My farm is in Iredell County, north of Charlotte. I saw Balsam Range on the TV show "Song of the Mountains" last Saturday. They put on a good show and I'm sure that it would be even better live.

Western NC seems to be a hot bed for bluegrass and its fans. I'm not sure that you can receive it in Mitchell County, but WPAQ (740AM) out of Mount Airy (the hometown of Andy Griffith) plays a lot of vintage string band, bluegrass, and country music on Saturdays.

I understand! I always root for the ACC teams unless they are playing us:)
Beating UM is going to be tough for the Noles but I will be cheering for them.
I am currently watching and hoping that South Carolina can hang on against Bama. Next time I'm up I am going to see if I can get the Mt Airy station.

Amazingly enough, just east of Sacramento here, we have some great local talent. In Pollock Pines, is an exceptional banjo builder. A Firefighter buddy of mine waited 2 years for his custom banjo. We also have some great bands.

We have a little place in Placerville that gets good live music in. Their hall only seats 70 people. Have seen some great bluegrass there. It is great to be right there up front and personal with the band, as compared to larger venues.

In Grass Valley, about 1.5 hours north of here, they have a Fathers Day bluegrass festival. They get the best bands in the country there.

My favorite though, was seeing Hot Rize in a small theatre in Sacramento back in the '80's.

Even the local groups have some great musicians. We enjoy listening to bluegrass on the radio and are familiar with the NPR show but there is nothing like listening to it live in the small venues where you are up close.

You are welcome, Del is in the class with the greats of Bluegrass. I am glad he has his 2 sons in the band with him to keep this music going. Ken Sweet
