BX 2200
My BX2200 air cleaner bracket has now broken for the 5th time. I do have the "newer" bracket design since I purchased the machine (2003). I have gone through 2 brackets and keep replacing the pieces that have cracked with pieces that have not. This last time I had put silicone rubber "washers" underneath the bracket and did not really crank down on the nuts when tightening so that there was a little "give" in the assembly. I have been careful with keeping the engine RPM up at idle so that it doesn't vibrate at very low idle speeds. My nephew has welded my last combo of two broken pieces so will change to that next. What have people done to minimize this? Using bungee cords has been suggested I think but that doesn't really appeal to me. I see the new machines mount the air cleaner to the frame and let the vibration dampen out via the rubber connecting tube to the engine block. Would appreciate some help here.

I ended up cutting and drilling a 1/4" piece of flat plate to fit over the two engine studs. Then the legs of the OEM filter bracket were welded to the plate. The legs had to be cut down a bit to maintain the same configuration.

By making the two legs into one solid, connect apparatus it seemed to stabilize the shaking enough to prevent the bracket from breaking again.

After three different brackets it seemed something else was needed. The bracket is indeed a weak point in the BX system.

GW... you then bolted the 1/4" plate (with the legs welded on) down tight to the engine? How long has this version lasted? I was thinking something to absorb some of the vibration was an alternative. Certainly an easy fix.

I think my 2004 BX23 has about the same air filter mounting as your BX2200. Mine has also broken numerous times. After the last time, I fashioned a new bracket assembly from some of the original parts.
There is some vibration that still reaches the air filter, but nothing like the shaking it received, mounted to the engine. This mounting has been in place for about 75 hours without any signs of fatigue.

Your solution looks simple but effective. Would eliminate welding. Whenever I replace parts I only get 1-2 years (I've got 578 hrs since 2003). I like moving the bracket from the engine block. Now I have to check and see which of the two brackets broke this time and the unbroken one matches the one you have in your first picture. Thanks for providing pictures and solutions guys.

Yes, tightened it down snugly. It would seem that leaving it loose would cause even more vibration.

My brackets kept breaking at the feet where they attached to the engine.

The welded bracket has been on for about three years, 150 hours, with no problems. It is a 2001 BX2200 with about 600 hours.

I like ibnxe's solution even better than mine. Get that sucker away from the vibrating engine. If another fix is needed that is how I'll do it.

Thats a nice mod ibnxe.
I recall bragging in a previous thread about how the OEM brkt on my BX23 had never broke and I am nearing 600 hrs. Well, wouldn't you know it, not long afterwards it broke...... The replacement was cheap enough but surprisingly out of the 3 local dealers only one had the part in stock.

I'm seriously considering adding one of those filter minders so I can get alittle more life out of the air filter element and the placement of the built in adapter (the red cap) would seem to be oriented to where the gauge would interfere w/the hood closing.
ibnxe's mod coupled w/alittle reorientation just may kill a couple birds w/one stone, errr, bracket. :D

good job....question is...why did it break so many time in the 1st place? surely K has field tested that model? is vibration excessive or poorly designed brk?
u did what i would have....

Increasing the idle speed a little will help also. It's easy on the BX.

I came up with a slightly different fix for my BX22 back in '04. Search for a thread called "BX project: trash that air cleaner strap" or something like that. Several pix there. 700+ hours later, never one bit of trouble from the fix.
