Hi

I'm hoping someone can help me with this. My BX23 has spent its life in a heated garage. Today I noticed antifreeze dripping when I started it up. Looks like the leak is coming from a frost plug. Have a look and let me know if it seems like something I can do myself?

Thx
Glenn

unfortunately they rust out or start leaking after temperature cycles. fortunately replacing freeze plugs is pretty straightforward. resist the urge to dump stop-leak into the coolant!

drain the coolant. carefully knock out the plug with a punch or screwdriver, taking care not to damage the block (don't strike it too close to the edge). ideally you can tap it on one side and spin it in place and pull it out with pliers without knocking the plug into the block. clean the mating surfaces (i use acetone) and install a new plug (brass if you can find it) with some sealant (i use loctite 243). you might get away with a socket for pressing in the new plug but better to buy the dedicated tool from your local auto parts supply.
