Hi again,
I recently picked up a great 1602D and so far it's perfect. One thing I don't like about it is the way the anti-sway chains were put on (poor quality, pretty much parallel to the sway arms). I want to change these, but I thought I'd ask a few of you with similar tractors to show how your stabilizer chains mount to the tractor (pics please : ) ). The end that attaches to the arm is pretty straight forward, but some work needs to be done to fasten the other end to the tractor.

thanks,
Rob

Im sorry to hear that you dont like them.
Put you wheels on wide mode & they wont look so funny to you. What do you see that bothers you about them.
They work dont they, are they thee original ones or after market ? Please give us some more info, any pictures ??

thanks for the quick posts, but mine were purely make shift.

the end that is typically attached to a tab on the tractor, was simply over the pin for the lower link arm, so when I put my new box blade on, they don't work very well to stop swaying. they are also of very flimsy chain, and use a clothesline turnbuckle.

I don't have a tab, and it doesn't appear like I can attach them. I am looking for some examples, so I can fashion my own, or come up with another mounting config. Is there any problem with putting the chains inside the arms, I could fastened the tractor end some where around the draw bar? Any ideas? What has everybody come up with?

thanks,
Rob

There are basically three ways to attach the stabilizers to the tractor.

1) As described above, they run to tabs out on the axle housing near the wheels (that is outside the lift arms)
2) Inside the lift arms down to an attaching point between the lift arms near the drawbar.
3) In a cross pattern from one lift arm to the other - this creates problems when using pto powered equipment.

I think the YM1602 uses the same attaching method as my YM1301D, that is method 2 above. It would help if you could post a photo of the current setup. I attached a photo of the 3ph I made for my YM1301D.

I have a 1602D also, and it didn't even have sway chains when I got it. There are no tabs at the wheels to attach them to on the 1602D, I made some up, but the location is such that it's not on the same plane as the hitch lower pins, so as you raise the implement the chains tighten up - not a good solution. After messing around with various ideas, I finally bought a pair of new adjustable chains from Hoye, made some mounting eyes to allow them to slip over the lower pins and criss crossed them. Seems to work fine with no interference. I'll be out to my "farm" this weekend and will take a pic to post how I did it.

Thanks for the pics so far.
I am going to go with the inner chain attachment points. I ordered a set of chains, and just need to figure out the best attachment point on the tractor. I will keep you posted on my progress.

I have set up the "inner chain" setup on a couple of YM1500's because anything was better than the stabilizer bars that come standard. I would look at fixing the current configuration or modifying it. The inside the bar stabilizers will work, but they have to be loosened up a lot everytime you remove an implement. Where as if the stabilizers are on the outside, you can just pull the off because the slack in the stablizer favors "spreading out".

Here is the link to where I made this mod on a YM1500D.
