I'm setting at my desk right now, and the county mowing crew is mowing the ROW on the roads. My office is at an intersection.. so they have been here for about half an hour. All the mowers were parked across the street in a vacant lot, and are heading out in all directions from here. It's a mix. A kubota, couple MF, and a new shiny CNH ts110. I didn't catch the numbers on the kubota and the MF was a 1XXX.. decal was scratched out. MF looke dto be lat 90's.. kubota to be in the 00-02 range.. and CNH looked 05/06 easy.

CNH was the quietist, and pulled a pto 15 hog. Kub next quietist, and also had 15' pto hogs. MF was loud and smoked like a chimney, and had a hydro 15' hog.. though she didn't look like she lacked for power.. just smoked real good.

Now. the point of my message.. besides it being illegal to litter. So far int he last 15 minutes. I've watched these guys try to mow the ROW, and dodge all kinds of obstacles. The street signs are hard enough.. but the homade yeard sale signs are bad too. I've counted 3 of them .. carboard and wood stake type, all shredded and spewn out ont he road and backslope. I've also seen a couple tree limbs that obviously fell off a landscape / maint /tree trimmer truck, hit. I've counted about 3 other large 'encounters'.. can't tell what they hit, but large objects flewy out from under the deck.. one looke dlike a cheapy push mower deck!!! I'd hate to be the guy that has to maintain those ROW mowers.

Not to mention the traffic. People around here just don't seem to care about anybody other than themselves...

Oh, don't be so hard on us. I figure when I throw my empty six-pack container and a few cans on the roadside that I'm just providing a job for somebody.:)

Just joking. I agree with you 100%. I keep my truck interior in a mess because I refuse to throw anything out the window.

Soundguy, just think about the poor sap who buys one of the tractors! People around here buy them at the state auction, slap a new liquid overhaul on them, and sell them to unsuspecting souls who think they are getting a bargain.

The tractors themselves i wouldn't be so concerned about.. they look fairly well maintained.

The mowers on the other hand... they look like h*ll.

Around here they subcontract a lot of that work. The guy who does my road uses a cutter that hangs kind of like a sickle bar but rotates like a reel mower. Not quite a flail, but similar and side mounted so it can mow up or down sloped areas.

I once heard a big "Whang!" sound when he went down the other side of the road, so went out to see what he had hit. Ever see a 20 lb. propane cylinder cut almost in half? I'm just glad the thing was empty or it could have been real exciting for a little while.

My cabin is on narrow country road, roughly paved, about 5 miles long. It really isn't a through-way or short cut of any sort. There is occasional traffic but still infrequent enough that when you hear a vehicle coming you look up to see who it is. Even so, the road side is just covered with beer cans, plastic bottles and fast food bags. It just drives me nuts. I try to pick up the litter along the ROW in front of my place but its endless. When the mowers go by the litter gets spewed everywhere.

I boggles my mind that people chuck stuff out the window but I've also seen stuff blow out of pick-up beds too. Thats is a less offensive offense but us truck owners need to keep in mind that the Wendy's bag is going to blow out at some point.

People that litter piss me off also. What really gets me is why do smokers think it is okay to throw out cigarette butts. Usually they are still burning. And the ones who really get me are the ones who dump their ashtrays in parking lots.

We have a local shopping news twice a week. The farm across the road from me had the box disappear and the shopping news delivery person kept throwing them in a pile where the box used to be. They were wrapped in plastic. Must of been 15 or 20 of them there when the mowing crew hit it. I find it hard to imagine he didn't see them. Talk about litter!

Every morning on the way to/from work, I see these pigs throwing their cigarette butts out the window. I guess the roads are a smokers ash tray.

Here in redneck Alabama littering is the hottest topic of discussion for the last couple of months.Toss a cigarette butt or thump an ash.You are getting a ticket. Its a newly adopted law in Etowah county.I have never heard of it before but am sure they got the idea from larger cities.
