I have a new Kubota 4610HST with LA852 and love it so far. I have read the manual regarding lubrication and noticed that the tractor lubricant is specified as a "Multipurpose type grease" which I assume is a lithium based type available most any hardware. The loader grease, however, requires an extreme pressure (EP) type Moly grease.

My question is; can I use the EP grease for the tractor also? This would simplify things.

Any advise appreciated.

Kubota newbie.

pete_s, I'm no engineer, so I won't tell you to do anything different from what your manual says, but I use the same grease gun (and grease) for everything. And I know my real farmer neighbors do the same.

Pete, I assure you that most any grease will do. The most important aspect of grease is the base used. Since it suggests lithium, (which is pretty much what everything is today)you can use lithium based grease for virtually all aspects of the tractor. Nothing on the tractor will be subject to the extreme temperatures like the bearings on a disc brake of a car. Having said this, I use nothing but synthetic, lithium compatible grease because it is relatively inexpensive and more importantly because of its water resistance. Other then that, bushings and bearings aren't particular to the makeup of the grease, but only that it is there. I grease based on use. When using a loader alot, I grease more frequently, it takes a load of punishment from me and the least I can do is make sure it doesn't go dry. Amsoil, Mobil, Prolong, Slick 50, Chevron, etc all make some good grease. I like the red grease simply because it looks less conspicuous on my pants and shirt then the dark grey black lithium greases available from StaLube etc. Rat...

P.S. I am considering the purchase of the Kubota 4610 HST myself, let me know of your thoughts about it.

Yep, the EP grease will work for everything.

By the way, if you decide you've got too much power, hydraulic flow, or loader capacity, I've got an L4310HST I'll trade you even for it. Just trying to be helpful, of course. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Don't anyone fall for this offer he'll just put bigger everything on this one to./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Well, I was thinking about making you the same offer, but I guess there's no point in that...

I noticed that my Kubota came from the factory/dealer with a colored grease (either red or blue). What do the synthetic greases look like and where do you buy them. Tractor Supply would be a nice answer, but I think their premium grease is the blue or red grease. I quit using the moly based (nasty) grease on parts that don't require it. Since I only dispense one grease at a time, a good multipurpose grease is what I am looking for also. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Bird: Congrats on your new title. I note that your many posts are long on 'helpful and constructive' and short on banter. Hope you stick around this board. I also have a one grease gun approach.

Wen, I've seen all kinds of grease in all different colors, so I don't think you can tell anything from the color. Maybe someone else can be more specific.
