I know several have have this issue, and now I have too. The hydraulic lines that run through the backhoe for the main boom cylinder rub on a sharp edge and eventually cut into the line. Only about 30-40 hours on the backhoe. Working with the dealer right now to have replacement lines supplied. I need to get in there with a dremel tool to grind off the sharp edge.

For those that have a backhoe, look at your lines. Lower the backhoe completely, and then feel with your finger through this hole for the sharp edge. Don't cut yourself though....the edge is actually that sharp. It is a square shaped hole, directly under the cylinder.

Will upload pictures when I get a chance.

you must have the earlier design. mine is later design, hole is offset.

That sucks with so little hours . When you get it fixed, you might want to soften that sharp edge with some pieces of car heater hose, slit the hose and gorilla glue it in place. Just a thought,. KC

rjmack, can you post some pictures of your offset holes. I wrote last year about this problem, as mine did the same. I thought the problem was the sharp edges where the hoses come out, but after changing mine, I have have damaged that hoses again. It appears that the problem is where the hose goes into the jack and where the hose comes out of the boom. On my tractor, they are in the same place and when you bring the boom all the way up (FAST) they collided and the damage is done.

i have to confess, i was talking like a parrot:eek:

a dealer mechanic pointed out that i have all the latest bells and whistles on mine, among other things the backhoe boom. he explained that there was a hose routing problem in the earlier designs that had been remedied in mine. he pointed to the area but i guess i wasn't paying close enough attention.

hope this picture is of the right area, if not just take a picture of yours and i will do the same on mine.:)

I don't have the pictures from my prior post about this a year or so ago, but in looking at your picture, this is what I need. Your hole directly under the jack, is off to one side and would eliminate my hose impacting the fitting on the jack, if it was off to one side. I just called ACGO and reported this, as I have been trying to find away to resolve this issue. I just wonder how many other people out there have an early backhoe with the hose hole directly below the fitting on the jack? If you have an early GC 2610 or GC 2410, I would strongly urge you to look and see if your hoses are damaged, before you end up with a face full of fluid.

it's odd though, that the hoses are running underneath the whole way down that section on mine.

all is not ducky on mine though either.:(

while dropping the boom to take this picture, i noticed that pretty well ALL the hoses are chafed where they make the turn at the base of the boom. if i recall correctly, that's 6 hoses, and they are all hooped... (or will be soon. 65 hours.)

once again, poor quality control rearing its ugly head.

they could probably have given a monkee a banana to buff the burr off ten of those cuts.

Hi guys, don't want to be an alarmist, I'm sure you're all more than aware but do be careful around those chafed hoses. My father, who also was an aircraft mech, lost his index finger to hydraulics. Fluid under pressure has tremendous cutting capacity and should not be taken lightly.

Again, not to be an alarmist. but the potential here should warrant an advisory at least from MF, with a potential recall for reparations based on the number of owners / dealers responding with similar issues. Someone should notify MF that this is more than an isolated incident and I'm sure, for the safety of their customers, they will have to take a serious look at it.

I called ACGO and I'm waiting on a call back. We should not settle for second best, considering the amount of money these tractors cost.

We all know hoses will wear, just exposure to the elements and normal use shortens the life of any hose. There are sleeves / spiral wraps and other products that exist to help prevent problems from chafing etc, not a bad idea. Normally you can expect to have to replace them depending on how hard they are used, whether they are exposed to the elements or not etc.

This sounds like wear due to manufacturing practices, and that means they will need to take a look at having them fixed.

From the posts I've read dealers seem to be aware of the problem, seems odd nothing has been done about it. Let us know how you make out with your response from AGCO.
