Another annoying problem

While cutting the grass, my fuel gauge was down on empty. Thought I was getting horrible fuel efficiency as I filled it last week. Checked the tank and it appeared to have more than just the drips that the gauge would indicate. Filled it up anyway and the gauge showed full for about two seconds and now seems to fluctuate wildly between 3/4 full and 1/4 full. What's up with the fuel gauge?

Re: Another annoying problem

I think this is typical of the BX series... my 2230 does the same thing. If you lift the seat and study the fuel tank a bit, you'll notice it's molded into a pretty complex shape for a gas tank. My theory is the engineers designed it that way for center of gravity and rear wheel traction reasons, but the tradeoff is the shape means the fuel gauge can't be very precise.

It's not much of an issue in my book. The BX is pretty good on fuel consumption. I just try to keep it well filled instead of running it down near empty. If the fuel level is below 1/2 when I first fire it up, I'll top it up before starting a 3 hour mowing job or whatever.
