I have been thinking of making one of these for a while. How difficult do you think the conveyor on the bottom would be to build? Has anyone ever built one. I want to design it for my skid steer loader. I think the hopper on the top should be fairly simple.

long and short of it is its a snowmobile belt, find a junk sled and you've got your belt along with idler wheels and drive sprockets. I've spread bedding with them and they may not be true snowmobile belts but thats what they look like. Hook it up to a hydraulic motor and a variable speed control and your in business. Hopper is the easy part.

Thanks for the response. Problem is that in Ireland snowmobiles are non existant. I do think your right in saying that I should find a piece of equipment with a conveyor already built and buy it for scrap. Maybe a silage mower belt for putting two rows of grass together might work.. Thanks for the idea.

I used one on a dairy farm in Ontario years ago.

It had a square hopper on top(bale went in head first) and a hydr orbit motor driven cutter shaft underneath and a adjustable shute to blow the bedding sideways in the stalls.
the cutter shaft had a couple rows of sickle sections bolted to it.
It was simple but effective.

As long as there isn't rocks and metal feed it to a wood chipper. That will blow it all over.:confused2:
