I have a chance to pick up a brand new Anderson EQ7185T (7x18, 10k) trailer for what appear to be a reasonable price. The deck is 18' with a 2' beavertail (16' flat), dual axles, D-Rings, stake pockets, and a wind-down 7k jack. I know nothing about them as a manufacturer or product and the dealer is no longer buying them for his lot (hence the good price). He has cited cost increases from Anderson that make the trailers considerably more than the others on his lot from CAM and Maxum (which is a division of CAM).
I can get a similarly equipped Maxum trailer for the same cost as the Anderson. Knowing that they are built by CAM makes them attractive to me, but the dealer states that the Anderson is heavier duty.
My concern for the Maxum is that, while it's an 18' deck, it's 15' usable because of the 3' beavertail. My tractor may need to be almost 4' up from the rear anyhow, so this may be a moot point.
My concern for the Anderson is that it's only 82" between the fenders. But, the Maxum isn't much better at 83". Neither is problematic for the tractor as that's only 54" at the rear wheels. My issue for the width is actually more of spacing for tie-downs (the tractor needs to be "away" from the edge some distance to ensure that the chains will get a solid hold side-to-side) and the potential of ever having to put a car on there.
Should I just get a 3CAM16 (which is a 16' flat deck CAM capable of 6k in CARGO) instead? That's about $500 more and would take six weeks to order in. Or, I could just get a 5CAM16 (16' flat deck CAM capable of 10k in CARGO) with a chain basket and pallet fork bracket already installed. That would be $1000 more than the Anderson.
Thoughts?
