A promotional video, but a soft sell. You may not know you are being sold a camera.
Please don't try this at home or on Safari.
People who believe they have an innate understanding of how a top predator may react on ay given day, usually meet their end horribly.
Timothy Treadwell comes to mind.....
It's his choice and I have to think he knows the risks and feels the rewards are worth it.

I think I need one of these cameras, not very expensive.

Hmmm. That was different. If I understood it, he met those lions as cubs?

I can respect his desire to publicize the issues with habitat. I hope he lives long and prospers.

The two females yes, I don't know about the big male. You can google him and find out more. Apparently he has a lot of experience with big cats and he has some type of zoo (for lack of a better word).
The hyena scene was no less amazing. Hyenas are very complex and unpredictable. I learned a little about them years ago and find them to be really fascinating creatures and very dangerous.
All I can say about getting that close to predator of that size is "Bad Idea". It doesn't matter how long you have "known" it. Even if it's in an enclosure and there is only one, I feel like you have no control once you put yourself in that situation. You deserve whatever you get when you get in a place where it can get you. I don't care how big a thrill it is to lye with a mature male lion and scratch his chin. It's a dumb thing to do.
I can see how it will further his cause, and I think it's a worthy cause. I just can't look at something like that and marvel at the inherent risk vs the small reward. I don't think this guy deserves to be shredded, he has 2 kids. I suppose when you consider his family and those responsibilities it becomes selfish as well.

Very cool video. At 2:00 - 2:40 when he was wearing the camera on some type of pole attached to his back I almost got sea sick.

I love my GoPro Hero3, very neat little camera, would be even cooler if the battery life were better.

Yep, those are all things to consider carefully. He seemed to have a fatalistic attitude about the risks. There was a comment to the effect "that we all just have one day, or today." Dang ears.

I would be interested to hear your review of the camera and the editing software. Which one do you have? How old is it? Just what is the battery life?

Robert,

I have the Hero3 Black which, as far as I know, is the latest and greatest. It has the ability to be remotely controlled, via internal WiFi, with a keychain FOB. With the iPhone app, you can actually view what the camera is seeing before starting a video or taking a pic remotely.

I have mostly used it for time lapse shots which gives about 3 hours and with 1080p video about 1.5 hours. With the WiFi turned on you halve these numbers. There are add on battery packs which I need to look at.

For editing I have used GoPro Studio and one other which I can not remember the name of. Having never edited any thing before and am terribly slow.

There is a YouTube channel, Micbergsma, which has, among other things, excellent tips and reviews about GoPro cameras. This guy knows his GoPro's and how to make great video.
