I am/was trying to get a big root dug out, and the associated dirt and leaves, which had grown up under a man size gate, on a fence in the rear of my property. I was using the right corner of the FEL bucket to ram/push in to the root and twist it up and out. It seemed to be putting some torqu on the structure of the loader (since I was only using the corner). The tractor would buck a bit as I tried to pry the root out. I don't know how much feedback at the tractor is normal. Should I only be using the loader for tasks that do not cause this feedback/bucking? I did try to keep the bucket level when forcing forward. I'll grant you it's alot harder on the FEL then scooping gravel, and I'm inclined to agree with Trescrow that it certainly isn't designed for that sort of thing. However; I'd like to get as much utility from it as possible as long as I'm not hurting it. Sometimes I think that with my little property, nothing I would ever do with thte BX would hurt it, but I realize thats a foolish rationalization. What do you guys think? Too hard on the FEL? should I make sure that when pushing in to an item, I have roughly equal force left and right on the front of the bucket (no angle attacks)?

I am not sure Roque, my BX bucks when it is pushed to the max, this results from the tires gaining and loosing traction and the tractor will bounce a little, the 2410 does the same thing. Personally, I would not intentionally cause my loader to twist--it might not untwist /w3tcompact/icons/sad.gif . Grossly assymetric loads could result in an assymetric tractor /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif . I imagine this goes for the other tractors as well. You know, comparing the stiffness of the 2410 loader to the BX loader, I think the BX loader is stiffer and more rigid. Notice that on the BX that the side rails are very close to the tractor hood thanks to in part the single center cylinder and no forward frame and also notice the BX does not have the stiffener tube between the uprights. I can easily spread the uprights when reattaching the 2410 loader and this is good cuz it makes reattachment easier but oddly the BX loader cannot be so easily spread-----hmmmmmm. J

I don't know about a BX but I have sprung the loader frame on a larger tractor, L3600, doing what you are doing. It was a surprise /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif. It was also expensive /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif! Push square with your bucket and not with just one edge. There have been several posts with regard to welding hooks on the bucket to lift with. Almost all will tell you to center the load so you don't rack the frame. You might get by several times or get bit the first time but eventually you will warp the loader frame. Hope you don't learn the hard way like I did.

Rogue,

My experience is that the tractor will lift/repel the force exerted before causing damage(lifting the rear wheels, etc). The lift force/capability is probably greater than the weight of the tractor.

Typical loading one corner on an FEL is harder on the unit. I digs rocks out with the FEL first then the BH if the're stubborn - lots of torque then none - doesn't seem to bother it even when it seems harsh, its harder on my ears (and mind) than the machine.

Try using an Axe next time. It will be much easier on your tractor if you take an axe to the root before trying to dig it out.

try some dynamite, a long fuse and set on yer tractor from a distance

I am getting a tooth bar (mounts from the sides with 2 bolts so I can remove it) for mine.. Just haven't picked it up yet.

Not planning to attack a huge root system with it but it should allow some easier light digging using the center of the bucket.

The single center cylinder and tipping are concerns to me. Tipping to one side has to be an un-natural condition for the tractor.

As for a big stump and root system..... Cut it close to the ground...Dig around it ... Drill some 3/4" holes in the top. Let it soak with diesel and used oil....... Pile on some charcoal... Light it.... Enjoy it......

The next time you decide to burn it (it doesn't go away completely the first time around) invite friends over, pack it in charcoal and cook a turkey........

We have a proven method of cooking turkeys using foil. No mess........
