Does anyone know of an American alternator application for a Kubota L1801? the dealer wants $310 for a new one.

Have you considered taking it to a place that rebuilds alternators. There are some pitfalls in just putting an american (or japanese) alternator on. Some are not alternators at all. Search for alternator - as I have seen several postings on this same subject here.

Re: Kubota in Need of Repair???

Wen,

It's probably not really a Kubota, right, cause they NEVER need repair!!! /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif NOT!

Jim.
Think of a Kubota like a lady.
1. Attractive
2.Well stand beside you thru good or bad.
3.Can make your life easier.
4.Low maintenance
5.Can make you feel good.

The list could go on and on and
I hope my girl friend doesn't read this...yikes.

Take care and play safe on your New Holland.

Re: Kubota in Need of Repair???

Jim, I sense a little hostility in your tone, step back, take a deep breath, repeat after me ahhhhhhhh ummmmmm. There, don't we feel a bit more relaxed? I think the post about Kubotas not needing repair was made in general and refering to "repairs needing to be done at a tractor dealership", not those that can typically be done by most backyard mechanics. I also think most of the tractors fall into this category including your beloved BLUE tractor. Some folks may have the dealer pick up the tractor, check the fluids, grease the zerks, etc, but I feel most folks on this forum do that themselves. Failure of external parts like alternators, hoses, fan belts etc. can happen to all makes, all models. It is unlikely that either Kubota, JD or NH is going to have a catastropic failure in the transmission or engine when the tractor is subjected to normal use. I think it would behove one to buy based on brand loyalty only, stupid actually. I also think its pointless to point out why what one has is not as good as it could be or that something else is better. The TC 18 sounds wonderful for you, you don't have to convince me you made the right choice. You have taken alot of ribbing about your choice in tractors, you have answered back in spirited and comical ways. I have enjoyed reading your answers.

I hereby nominate JimBinMI for the BLUE RIBBON AWARD, (BRA) I believe you deserve it. All those in favor say "Jim gets the BRA", or perhaps since this ribbon is pinned to ones chest, you could say "Jim wears the BRA" Rat...

I'll show my ignorance, but what is an L1801? I don't remember seeing that one. How old is it? Is it grey market or not?

Bird, the L1801 is a top secret high altitude jet developed by Lockheed. It is secretly know to insiders as the "Black Angel" It was developed to thwart enemy tractor manufactuers from gaing an upper hand on Caterpillar Tractor, John M. Deere, and other prominent tractor manufactuers during the early 50's. Up until the late 1990's it appeared to have worked, but one foreign manufactuer, Kubota, adopting a policy of "make it better and they will buy", sales of compacts with US names like John Deere and New Holland, ok and Danish names too, it would appear the effort has been thwarted. It is said that a new plan is secretly being planned, known only to outsiders as operation "Pumpkin Eater" Remember Bird, you heard it here first, Rat...

Getting a little deep in here. Time to start a thread on rubber boots. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Uh, oh, I was afraid JimBinMI was going to fool around until he warped someone else's mind./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif I still don't know how old it is or how big it is, but I did learn that the State of Washington, at least, lists it as being a gray market tractor.

Bird,

OK, I've made enough sarcastic remarks. Kubota's need general, shop or do-it-yourself, repair just like the other brands! And yes, I know that Kubota has a great reputation.
