Almost All Gear Boxes - Made in China?

From another site comes this comment regarding finish mower gear boxes - "The consumer grade Eurocardan and Comer gearboxes included are made in China. Lienbach, Worksaver, Bush Hog, Befco, TSC, King Kutter...Post hole diggers, bush hogs, tillers... Danuser is the only maker I'm aware of that still uses a US made gearbox."

Is this reasonably accurate?

The gear box on my snow blower is made is Spain, I think that's also the case for the gear box on my MX6 rotary cutter.

Reasonably accurate? Yes. Absolutely accurate? No.

Apparently, even a strong company like Land Pride uses a made in China gear box on it's finish mower? True? Just trying to get a handle on how pervasive this Made in China gearbox issue is. Assembled to "our" specs is the likely answer when asked? Are gearboxes too labor intensive to be assembled here? Is that it?

I think we have shipped all our steel to China and we dont have the material to make them anymore. Just joking! Ken Sweet

Competitive stuff like right angle gearboxes can't be built inexpensively enough here. Same old story. We all post here & other places wanting the rock bottom best price. That doesn't come from domestic components.

All of the majors just can't compete anymore, we priced our selves out of our good paying jobs that went over to China, India and Asia in general. We have no one to blame but our own greedy selves for supporting outfits like Walmart and the rest of the the el cheapo big box store chains, letting the great jobs and benefits go with them.
We just can't have it both ways folks.

Yes... that is true. Most are made in China. The trick is to make sure what is being used is from a reputable mfg. like Omni instead of Cheetah or some of the other ones. The difference is how closely quality control is monitored. Omni monitor's the quality of the boxes they get very closely. Others do not. Whoever posted that Bush Hog, Rhino, King Kutter, Land Pride, etc. are using mostly gearboxes from China are correct.
