I was referred by a friend to a private party selling an Allis-Chalmers D17 Series I 1960...gas engine 60HP w/FEL/PS/3 bottom mold board hydraulic plow/12' disc/snap couplers on all attachments...tranny redone 2 years ago and new brakes and front tires/rear tires 50%/snow and dirt bucket/sheet metal in "great shape". No hours info supplied yet.

Pictures and more info is coming tonight.

Any info or thoughts on this tractor...how does it compare with Ford 8N??

Assuming it is in "working" condition...price range I should expect to see?

Thanks...Tom R

If the tractor checks out ok, about $2750 would buy that outfit here in central Ky. The 8 N is a whole nuther tractor and cannot be compared to the D17. Ken Sweet

Parts are available through AGCO (Massey Ferguson Dealers etc.), NAPA, and specialty sites like Yesterday Tractors, and AllisChalmers.com.

D17 are a popular tractor with A.C. collectors and are an update from the WD and WD45.

D17 was one of the most popular AC tractors. Parts still available. They were prone to jumping out of gear when going downhill if the gears are worn. It was common on loader tractors because of freqent shifting. The diesels were really cold blooded in the winter. Had both D15 (gasser) and D17 (diesel) in my younger years. Sold a D19 gasser I had several years ago. Should have kept it.

I bought a series III D17 with a FEL and back blade for $3600 a few years ago. Had to replace the pistons, rings, sleeves and bearings on my own.

We have two D-17's here on the farm. One of AC's most popular models. Parts are not a problem. Many are still in use on farms. As other said they would jump out of gear but the diverter hi-low shift was a neat feature that was somewhat ahead of it's time. Not the same class of tractor as an 8N. Bigger and more horsepower. I consider it a row row crop tractor whereas an 8N as more of a utility.
