A local industrial tractor dealer has Alamo cutters. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with them. The conservancy district (irrigation) uses the Brahma + an Exten-A-Kut on their tractors for ditch maintenance.

But, in talking with the district employees - none of them have any experience with the standard Alamo rotary cutters. They look like a good, medium duty cutter to me, and they're less than a Deere MX-5. I need to clear some desert land that has 4-wing salt bush. Last weekend we used a chain saw on the larger bushes (over 3-inch diameter) - I'd like to be able to use a rotary cutter on the smaller bushes.

Alamo is part of The Alamo Group. That's Alamo, Rhino, and Shulte. They build the best of the best when it comes to commercial grade mowers. Most of their product line is tailored to extreme duty commercial mowing, and municipal road/park/highway maintenance as well as power line right-of-way maint. In other words, they build heavy duty stuff for SERIOUS mowing. I doubt you could find a better mower. Maybe as good, but no better.

Thanks for the information. I figured they had to make fairly robust equipment. The conservancy boys beat the daylights out of their cutters and I never see them broken down.

The Alamo plant is 35 mi. from my home and 3 mi. from the Kubota dealer I choose. They do build great equipment, but side by side I choose the Woods 840. For price and quality (Alamo A84 vs. 840) there was 1k difference in price and the quality seems to be too close to call. With 30 hrs. now on the 840 I am satisfied with my choice.

I run two different Rhino mowers (a 6' and a 8') and both are fine
Their one weak point is their tail wheels.
IN less than a couple hundred hours, I've bent two and lost one. (it's only held on by a cotter pin from the factory, POOR design)
Both the two bent ones were replaced under warranty because I complained.
My poor beater bushhog 5 foot (cheapie SQ model) has never bent a wheel in 4 years)
