We, as civilians, are the most armed nation in the world. Wouldn't it be nice if they came here and Pres opened up a free for all on them? Imagine the firepower. Not only the military, but the civilians also? Wow... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

But, I suppose the most important question is, just what does a terrorist look like? Usama bin Laden or Timothy McVay?

I believe the majority of folks you know, even though they dont run their mouths about it, could most definitly protect their families if need be. Unfortunately, the ones you hear so much from are on TV or control the media and have more sympathy for a killer than a victim. The average Joe will go about his bussiness and shake his head when these folks open their mouths, knowing better...

How many of our defending forces are any different?
More importantly, do we really WANT people fighting for our country's name and honor, who DON'T feel compassion for our foe's, many whom feel they are defending THEIR country's honor? Things aren't always as black and white as they seem.

Although I agree with your assumptions, I disagree strongly with your conclusions. Where was Flight 93 aimed, and what would have been the results if the passengers had waited for the "authorities" to take charge?
JMHO, but "Homeland Security" is a joke and always will be until we stop assuming our "Patriotic Duty" starts at the polls, and ends when our preferred politician is elected. When our forefathers added the 2nd amendment to the Bill of Rights, they assumed we would shoulder the responsibility which goes with the right to bear arms. We have lost sight of that vision.
Instead of prying into civilian's lives, our government should be aiding us to identify risks... and we should be training, so we ARE qualified to aid the official military and police. By definition, the militia is NOT an armed force trained by the government; it is citizens armed to defend against threats. It's degree of effectiveness depends on the innitiative of each individual.
In rural areas dialing "911" is defined as "Dial a prayer for police"
I got a real wakeup call when I realised that at least some of the B@$t@rds that flew the 9-11 planes drove past my house, on their route to infamy.
If we expect others to assume our risks, expect them also to assume our rights.

Stay real. The odds of a terrorist attacking you are minute.
Sure, I've a bunch of rifles and handguns, used 20 shells on the last 19 deer, and have a concealed weapons permit. My wife's taken a handgun course and carries a Walther PPK/S. So what? A gun doesn't help much if the terrorist is wearing a bomb and is intent on dying, taking you along (as in the buses in London, or train in Spain, or airplanes against the World Trade Center).
Now, if terrorists were uniformed, I'd recognize them. Sort of like our troops in Iraq to those who don't appreciate our presence (and those who don't like us seem to have a fair number of RPGs and old artillery shells, in addition to guns). That is real, and though I certainly support our troops, I also sure worry about their safety.

I live very close to where flight 93 went down. I am not so sure the "authorities" do not take charge in that situation. there has been a lot of talk about that plane being shot down. There was many eye witness reposts from the locals of a small jet aircraft flying around at high speeds right before the crash.( Hmmm???)
Why was one of the main engines found way BEHIND the rest of the planes wreckage? Wouldn't you think it should have been in front of the wreckage if it came off during impact?
There is alot more evidence of the gov't being involved but I won't bore you with that.
