air-cooled diesel for PT-425?

Having a diesel PT was the way I wanted to go, although, the 1430 is just a little too big for what would be practical in my case. I'm just wondering if there is anyone that has ever looked into putting an air-cooled diesel engine in their PT-425? Air-cooled would seem more savvy to me since one would not have to be concerned about having the extra space for the radiator. This is an air-cooled and is made in Germany, while they have an office in Wisconsin. Its around 23 hp. Once I get back home I'm going to look at the inside dimensions of the tub on the PT 425.

I thought the current diesel PTs didn't have a radiator and were oil cooled?

They are oil cooled, but will sure not fit in the small tub the 425 has. I think it is going to be hard to find anything other then a gas engine that will fit in one, which is sad. When the HP goes up, so does the size, and I can't see going down much with it.

if you are looking at a Hatz air cooled diesel they are great engines , I have one on a vibratory plow . I have seen them for sale online , they were bought at government auction and are like new .

Hatz Australia Pty Ltd what I'm seeing here, the dimensions look like they would fit in the tub of a PT-425. Also, its good to know they are a decent engine, because your the first person I ever heard say anything about them. I personally have never seen one that I know of. 23hp diesel engines seem to work well for the people I know that have them . Their machines weigh around 1400.

Mine is on a burkeen b 30 vibratory plow , I bought it new in 1984 has about 1100 hours on it , never had any issues with the engine . Its a bit loud . check these out on ebay

Does your Hatz start alright in the cold weather? The 3 cylinder diesels are what I'm more familiar with; what do you think of the 2 cylinders compared with the 3 cylinders?

I am only familiar with the 2 cyl . I have started it in the cold once or twice . Its on a machine that I use to install underground sprinklers . I dont use it much in the cold .

I've got a little Deutz 32 HP engine in my Vermeer and it's a great little motor. Burns little fuel and as you said without a radiator it takes up little space.
