Greetings fellow Members of the Flail Mower Nations.
Its almost time for the majority of us to inspect our flail mowers and tuck our flailmowers away for winter.
The knives and knive hangers should be checked and replaced if needed.
ANY grass or debris wrapped around the flail mower rotor bearing hubs should be removed.
Garden hose snakes and fence wire included. The Garden Hose Snakes will be viscious
and fight you so be careful.
The belt guard should be removed and the mower washed with hot water with some Dawn dish soap
to remove any debris.
Any rubber dust that refuses to budge should be scraped off to remove any build up.
The mower should be greased and a note penned on the calender to remind you of it
on the first day you expect to mow in 2015-My fellow southern hemispere and souther
USA members need not worry about that part.
After the last mowing the belt should be removed and placed in a plastic bag, sealed and
kept out of the sunlight to prevent more ozone damage to the rubber.
The Gearbox oil level should be checked and topped off and if it is equipped with a
breather vent the vent should be covered with plastic bag to prevent more moisture
from getting into the gearbox oil.
In my case I may just replace the 34 year old flywheel clutch as it is original equipment
and it has probably traveled a couple of million miles in 32 years.
