Tractor
Agracat 2940
Haven’t been on here in a bit. Replaced oil pump, clutches , rear main seal . Tractor all back together and starts right up , originally very low oil pressure , still have low oil pressure with new oil pump . Wondering if crank and and rod bearings are worn. I’ve heard they will affect oil pressure .1999 agracat 2940 , y385 engine . Any help would help . Thanks

What weight of oil are you using?
What kind of pressures are you seeing? Does it stay the same or increase with engine speed?
IF you can find the bearing clearance specs, Plasti-Gage is your friend
Can you tell if you are getting oil circulation up through the valve train?
IF the engine sounds and performs OK then I might be tempted to use it a while and pull oil samples for analysis at something like 10 hour intervals. If you really are having lubrication problems it should show up fairly quickly in the lab results.
Some engines run just fine on "low" pressure.
All this reminds me that my dash gauge has finally died and I need to rig up a mechanical one this summer when I don't have to wear gloves to work outside. :sneaky:

Using 15/40 , gauge has been broke. I had changed the injection pump that had been broke for well over 2 years, got it running good and that is when I saw there was little to no oil pressure. Removed oil sensor and would come out the pipe slowly ,Attached manual gauge and oil would barely fill the tube , after changing oil pump, clutch etc, much the same . Took valve cover off and I see no oil coming out of valve train when tractor is running . Tractor sounds good running. Oil as stated will pump out of the tube oil sensor was attached to . I’m at a loss

No Rod knock or other noises?
I would try and check the oil pick up screen (not plugged) and also that there are no vacuum leaks in the pick up tube system. As was suggested -At the same time check those rod and main clearances.

You would think that with the sending unit port open to air the pump would be pouring oil out no mater what the condition of the bearings were. Since there is no restriction it would be the path of least resistance and most all of the pumps output would come out there.

If you still have the old pump, try and figure out a way to drive it with something like a drill motor and stick it a bucket of oil and see if you can judge the output. If that works fine, you can most likely rule out the pump as the problem, although it is possible to get a bad part right out of the box.

When you replaced the pump were you able to verify that the pump drive system was working properly?

It would seem that either the suction side has a leak or there is a restriction in the pressure side. It would have to be fairly close to the pump output to block oil flow for the whole engine. I have known of bits of sealant or mechanics rag to go through the pump only to get lodged somewhere else in the engine and starve a component or two so it is possible that something like that has happened.

When you had the pump off, did you try blowing air through the passage ways? Might be interesting to put a little air pressure in the system from the sender connection and see if you can detect any flow under the rocker cover. Maybe you could rig up a way to connect a hand pump oil can to the fitting and try pressurizing the system from outside the oil pump.

Keep us posted on you process and progress.

No rod knock , motor sounds good . Oil does come out of the oil sending unit , but you attach the manual line and it will barely fill the line , when I changed the pump , the old one I put in water and it would pump water out, I will drop the pan again I guess and make sure that pump is working, and check mains and rod caps . I may see if I can rig a manual pump up and try to pump oil if I can .

I have removed my oil pan and a crank cap , does anyone know the clearances for the main and rod bearing .if I get the plasti gauge which size should I get .

I wouldn't expect the line to fill with oil because of the trapped air. However, you can bleed off the air by loosening the fitting at the gauge.
Use the red Plastigage.

Do you know the spec on clearances, for the main and rod bearings, thanks

Not specifically, but I think you can use this as a guide. Convert cm to inch.
