John Deere 4320
I have a 2006 4320 JD. The front tires the first year showed severe age cracks. I went back to the dealer back then and was given no help at all. I have replaed both front tires and they are ready to blow again. I doubt I am not alone with this problem. Anyone have any suggestions for a different brand than what came on the tractor. (Carlise) I am sure I have misspelled the brand name. Thank you in advance.

Sunscreen for Tires

Whether it's human skin, rubber, vinyl, plastic, fiberglass or tires, protection from the harmful effects of the sun and ozone has become increasingly important.

Tires on antique tractors, RVs, boat trailers or classic cars that are parked for extended periods begin to "dry-rot." The tire dries, checks and eventually cracks in part to UV damage.

303 Protectant is not greasy or oily and does not attract dust and dirt like other "rubber protectants".

No other product restores the original appearance or lasts as long as 303 PROTECTANT

I would put tubes in them (if they don't have them) and run them until they blow (unless you can't afford the down time). The rear tires on my backhoe very very badly checked and I had thought of replacing them. They were to the point where parts of the tread were breaking off exposing the cords. I finally hit a rock and but a big gash in one which forced me to replace them. When I did I found the inner rubber was in pretty good shape and the tubes do a real good job in extending the life of the tire.

Hey crazyal, thanks for the suggestion. I have considered tubinhg the fronts and I no doubt will, however it just irreated me that the dealer said oh my, they won't last long, they were only one year old. Said he tried to get me new ones with no luck. Ya know sometimes you smell a rat, well this time I did. Another guy I have heard of and verified the story, bought a new tractor from the dealer here in Vermont, John Deere dealer, they replaced all four of his. I am showing singns of cracking on the rear now but they are eight years old. I would expect that. What brand of tire comes on the Kubota tractor? I like the Deere, especially the comfort but I am considering something of a different color. Although the hydraulics aren't the best either. Power in hydraulics is good but there is a delay in the curling of the bucket. They tell me they all do it, well fix it then.
Where are you in the Kingdom?

Does your tractor stay outside or in a building? Either way a year is way to soon for the tires to be shot. If it stays outside I would look into some covers to keep the sun off of the tires, I know they make them for RV's but anything would really work. My parents tractor is almost 30 years old with original rear tires and even though the tread is wearing the tires are in good shape and will probably be fine in another ten years when they need replaced due to tread wear, their machine is stored inside.

<covermytractor.com> might be the solution if you leave your tractor outside. L2800 w/FEL - 72" Land Pride rake

You asked, my answer: Titans are on my tractor and after 7 years show slight cracking mainly at the front roots of the lugs. Got to look pretty close to see it. I keep the tractor under a shed and put nothing on the tires.

I think it has more to do with the compound of the rubber than anything else. I have a Milwaukee portable band saw. Around each wheel there's a rubber band that grips the band saw blade. After 2 years the rubber was cracked. Obviously they never saw much sunlight. My guess is Milwaukee used a natural rubber that doesn't last very long. Each brand of tire has their own compound that's a balance of performance and price. When it comes time to buy replacements who here doesn't look at the price and use that as part of their decision on which brand to buy.

On whether it hurts anything or not, especially with nylon cord, Yesterday I replaced the two front tires and tubes on my '65 Ford 3000 and they were OEM best I could tell. Cracked.......sorta. Grin. But until a couple of days ago they gave me satisfactory service.

+1 on Formula 303. Have used it for decades on boats & trailer tires. Freshens paint or gel-coat too, but you have to strip wax or polish first. Find it at your marine supplier. Can't fix weather-checking of tires, but it can be prevented ...
