Traction Ag or turf tires for GC1710?

Hi guys.. I'm 98.403% of the way through the process of talking myself into buying a new 1710, and expect to have covered the remainder of that ground by the time they open Tues am So tires... I have no experience with ag tires. My intended use of the tractor will be some turf work and some work in the unimproved land behind him house. What's the best choice in your considered opinions? TIA.

Why not go in the middle with R4's. They are more turf friendly than ags but offer more traction in mud/ dirt than turfs.

If I had only 1 set of tires/rims, it would be turfs. R4s are a compromise tire, don't do anything really well. Ags (R1) are great for dirt work, but tear up a soft lawn very easily. Turfs are better for grass, and can be better in winter conditions. I've seen using ags for 7 yrs now on my GC2300. They offer better traction in dirt but will bury the tire when you spin them, At least the turf will just spin when losing traction. 4WD is more important than the tire. Use 2WD until you get stuck, then 4WD to get unstuck. If its really bad, there isn't anything a backhoe can't pull you out of.

I went with the turfs for my gc2310. Easy on the lawn until the rears break loose. Good traction tilling, etc until it gets muddy, then the treads fill up and it is like a bald tire. I like them for mowing, but may goto the R4's, although they aren't cheap for such a small tire.

Every tire is a 'compromise'.......I chose turf tires, because my main jobs are mowing and snow removal. Turfs are easy on grass, and when combined with 2 link ladder chains.........are a forced to be reckoned with on ice.:thumbsup:
