Kubota M7040 cab/hyd shuttle - current, Kubota L3400 - traded
I know nothing about this so I apologize if this is a silly question.

My L3400 is on the way with the factory FEL and bucket. I am told that the bucket is not quick attach and there isn't a QA option from the factory.

I don't yet have any need for something other than a bucket but might eventually get a hay spear.

I'm wondering if there are any aftermarket options for quick attach buckets / hay spears that are as good as the the OEM ones.

Is there a quick attach standard out there or is this all proprietary stuff?

Wondering if I should be passing up on the factory bucket and looking for an alternative system - or is the QA a feature of the loader and not the bucket?

Have your dealer go to Attachment Technologies....Paladin Brands and get the appropriate quick attach unit for your loader and install it.

You will have to exchange your bucket for a Q.D. style bucket which the dealer should do at no charge.

My M9000 came with an LA1251 FEL and the 1251 doesn't come with a factory QA/QD setup. My dealer put on the ATI unit and I got a QD bucket. Be sure to get a heavy duty round back bucket. The standard material buckets are wimpy. I know that from experience and welding them back together.

That isn't a silly question at all. I'm kind of surprised your dealer didn't suggest alternatives.

For the life of me, I don't know why the URL didn't highlight so you could click on it. Guess you will have to type it in. Sorry.

There are no silly questions here, but I sure have seen a lot of silly answers. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I was in your exact same boat (well, canoe in this case), and was thoroughly confused about QA brands, interchangeability, etc.

First, I'm a little surprised that Kubota doesn't offer its own brand of QA for the L3400, but it won't be the first or last time I'll be surprised. (For instance, WHO KNEW that Nick and Jessica wouldn't work things out?)

Secondly, I agree with Daryl/5030. who replied as I was writing this, that your dealer should have been able to take care of you much better than he did. At the end of the first inning: TBN:1 Dealer:0.

QA's are pretty much universal now, especially those properly referred to as "Bobcat-style quick-attach". In the beginning, along with a vast void of darkness, there were a few proprietary (non-universal) quick-attach systems out there, but everyone is now pretty much on board with the style popularized by Bobcat. This is good, because there are a lot of very cool "Bobcat" brand attachments out there, and probably hundreds or thousands of non-Bobcat ones.

There were some reported problems with earlier (2-3 years ago?) Kubota brand QA's that had the attachment end up being a little too high relative to the QA adapter itself (which is "permanently" attached to the loader arms, and fits into QA-compatible weldments on the attachment being used). I have a new, improved Kubota brand QA adapter, and it seems fine. One large mfr. of QA adapters is ATI (Attachment Technologies Inc). I became convinced that the Kubota brand might be just a little "better", and went with it. Others' opinions and mileage may vary. If Kubota really doesn't offer a QA for the 3400, maybe ATI does?

Other points:

QA adapters do weigh a bit, maybe 100 lbs +, and do take away some lifting power, by virtue of both their own weight, and the fact that they move the load maybe 6 inches farther away from the loader arms.

One can always modify a non-QA attachment to fit onto a QA adapter. Pretty simple cutting/welding job.

The spring-loaded, tapered locking pins (on the Kubota QA at least) do a fairly crappy job, especially after they wear a little, of securing the bottom of the attachments to the adapter. After having my grapple pop off for the umpteenth time, finally breaking a hydraulic fitting in the process, I bolted it to the QA adapter with 3/4" grade 8 bolts.

This caused me to wonder: Hmm, is this still a QA system at all? Should I call it a KQA (Kinda Quick-Attach) system? This lead me to seriously consider eliminating my QA altogether, but THIS IS JUST ME. My grapple has been off 3 times in 20 months, and I need all the lifting power I can possibly get lifting the heaviest logs possible. Not a "slam" on QA AT ALL. QA is great, and mine is still on there. Just toying with the idea of putting pin-on mounts onto my existing ATI HD QA bucket and Bradco grapple, and swapping them the old-fashioned way, that's all.

I am waiting on the 2006 L3400's to come in and I was told by the dealer that the 463 Loader came stanard with a quick detatch bucket?? Didn't seem right to me, but the guy at the dealership is a newer guy?? Is this correct or is the 463 even available that way?? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Do a search on the forum to find the numbers and pictures, but the quick attach for the 513 loader on the L3130's fits the loader on our L3400. Then get a plate for the back of your bucket and have it welded on. Whole thing is under $600.00.

I also had problems pulling the grapple off of my quick-tach adapter. I had to modify my aftermarket grapple and forks (weld some spacers in) to work correctly on my Kubota FEL with Q/A.
The WR Long 4n1 bucket that I ordered for the Kubota fits perfecly and cannot be pulled off by the power of the tractor, at least not yet but I'm still trying. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
I think there are variances in the spacing for the q/a connections between the manufacturers. All will connect but some will connect better than others.
That's my experience anyway.

I found the post. Go to 'Wushaw's' posts and open the pictures to get an idea.

Shortened Long Link

The Kubota part number for the Quick Attach is L2230A. It retails for $399.00. You could do a little better. Our local dealer had a pile of them. The plate can be picked up anywhere including Ebay. Some are heavier than others but these tractors don't need much. Do get the plate as one piece to keep the spacing easier.

MikePA: Please review your message before posting it. It's simple not to create a long link that widens the entire thread. Just insert a descriptive word or two between the {url=http://whatever}Enter words here{/url} instead of the entire URL. Replace parentheses {} with square brackets in previous example. Alternatively, if you use the Instant Markup language URL link, the first prompt is for the URL. The second prompt is for a description. Do not simply paste in the URL again. Type a short description of the link.
