Hi all,

New guy here and from a post below, made me think of a question for you experienced guys. What are your opinions on the most reliable clutch re-manufacturers for aftermarket clutches. The reason I ask is that I'm going to attempt to replace my clutch and the pilot and throwout bearings but I can't afford to buy OEM parts. I imagine that most of these clutches are now rebuilt in China (probably even branded clutches), but I imagine some of the distributors may make more of an effort to maintain quality control with overseas manufacture. I may be wrong with my assumptions but I'd love to hear from those closer to the subject and hear basically what brands to look for. Splitting a tractor seems to be a big job and I really don't want to have to redo it real soon after getting it back together. Thanks!

+1 on Fort Wayne Clutch. One of the best in the country.

I recently put a clutch in my Ford. I went thru the local CARQUEST Auto Parts store and they got me a new, not rebuilt clutch assembly from A&I products. Clutch disc, pressure plate, throwout bearing, pilot bearing for $420.

Here's a link to A&I parts. There are many. Google it.

thanks guys for your input. Ovrszd, do you know where A&I Products are manufactured? I get the impression from reading their info that they are not manufacturing but putting a brand name on parts that are made in many plants. Not necessarily a bad thing if they are closely monitoring the quality of the parts being produced. I have heard their brand mentioned as a quality brand.

No I do not. They are very popular here in the Midwest. I was warned by two tractor mechanics to avoid rebuilt clutch assemblies. But others have posted confidence in Fort Wayne Clutch.

A&I clutch is fine, heard good things of the place in Fort Wayne. stay away from auto parts clutches for tractors

A&I, Hy-Capacity, Herschel, Sparex and TISCO, are all Chinese or Indian. Hy-Cap does rebuilds that are good quality. My experience with the ones listed is that they are pretty good. I would avoid Atlantic Tractor Parts clutches at all cost, they will be the cheapest but their parts are junk.

Hey,

Thanks to all for the info. My curiosity is now piqued. Does anyone know who makes clutches that get the OEM "big boys" names on them. Are they made by the same companies that Sportsman names above? Are they really worth paying 2-3X the $ or are you still basically getting a Chinese product? Again, not necessarily saying Chinese is bad, but I suppose you could be getting better quality control with an OEM brand clutch. Regards to all.

For me, my use of my tractors is not to make a living. And I don't put maximum HP against the clutch all the time like an AG tractor would. So I couldn't justify the cost difference to buy an OEM clutch. If I did use my tractors that hard I would have had to seek some expert advice and opinions before buying.
