Getting the paper work started for a NEW 2520 but it is unfortunate that I was unable to strike a deal with a local dealer that is less than a mile away from me. I live in PA and i got a better deal buying from a dealer in DE 2 hrs away. I decided to get the 2520 with the 62in Drive over deack (wish they had the auto connect), 61" 200cx bucket with 2 lifting hooks welded on and the 54" snow blower. Possibly getting the mulching kit since I didnt get the power flow system (b/c it really is a bad system). Though I am looking for the Hydrualic Dump System they made a few years back. Here is the prcing break down of the the local dealer compared to the DE dealer.

Local JD Dealer:
2520: $16,136 (includes roll off)- 8.25% disc = $14,800 -$2,500 (rebate)=$12,300

200cx Loader $3,242-13.5% disc=$2,800
62 On ramp mower $2,910 - 14%disc = $2,500
54" Snow Blower $3,669 - 12.75% disc = $3,200
Total $20,800
Salesman told me that the 60 month finance deal was 2.9% (thats funny I talked to the owner in March and he said he could do it at 0% for 60 Months) I also saw that JD has certain areas it is either 0 for 60 or 0 for 48 and 1.9% for 60 so I am not sure where he is getting 2.9% and I asked him2 times if that was correct. I think he was using that as leverage to be able to neg 1.9% or even 0% when I could get the 0 % all along.

Grand Total from local dealer is $20,800 plus $1,248 (tax) = $22,048 (with $6000 down) for 60 months at 2.9% = $22,598 total payment for deal (dealer said he would split the cost of the interest 1.5 which comes out to about $550 for him and $550 for me, which if you ask me is the smoke and mirrors of the interest game deal I don think the 60 month is 2.9% I think it really is 1.9% but the dealer in VA and DE said the most dealers can do the 60 month at 0% if they are participants which the local is):( .... then before I left I told the sales guy what another dealer in DE was giving the 2520 itself to me for ($11,699), he than said he would give me the deal at 0% for 60 months so the fianl cost goes to $22,048 out the door. Don't get me wrong the local dealer has s real good reputaion around here but we all know when it comes to sales that is sooo different than just going in and buying parts for someting you need.

DE Dealer:

2520: $16,136 (includes roll off)- 12% disc= $14,199 -$2,500(rebate)=$11,699

200cx Loader $3,209 = set up fee $281 =$3,490- 12.5% disc = $3,054
62 On ramp mower $2,796 = $225 Set up fee = $3,021 -11%disc= $2,689
54" Snow Blower $3,669 = $168 set up fee = $3,837 10.25%disc = $3,442
with 0% for 60 months. Grand total of $20,885 out the door (No Tax in DE) just a 2 hour drive and about $100 for fuel to pick up.

I told the local dealer that I don't mind paying a little extra to get it from a dealer that is local especially since they are in my back yard. i told him if the extra is between $500-$600 I was ok with that but if it is over that then I have to consider my options. But when I see that i can save myself $1,163 plus I am happy and feel comoftable with the deal from the dealer in DE I think I am going with the DE dealer. The local guy makes me feel like he was just taking me for a ride since he is the only one in the area within an hours drive. Once I told him where the other deal was from he told me "wow that is really far away"... I said 2 hours is not that far and it is only going to cost me $100 in fuel to get it...I travel 1 hr to work every day!

What do you think???? Should I go witht he local guy or continue with the DE dealer???? Still time to switch, I am just about to fill out the application part.

take the deal, just hope when you need service the local guy doesn't stick you.

I also have a Deere dealer close. Back as far a thirty years ago I bought farm equipment from this dealer and really liked the service. Then when the owner semi-retired and turned things over to the next generation they became less customer friendly. They are more in a mode of survival and don't want to deal in the old fashion way the founder did. Service is not as good as years back. It drove me to get rid of all the green I had becouse I just hated to deal with these people. This year I went out of town and found a Deere dealer that has a much better busness and customer policy. I now have a new Gator the first green back on my place in ten years. They in fact have some parts pickup shacks less than five miles from my local dealer. Guess I'm not the only one that finds them unacceptable. Buy from the dealer that wants your sale no matter where he is and don't worry about service from your local. If he wants to play games at the sale just think what kind of service he has.

I guess I'm confused... the only thing about the deal in DE that's better is the fact you're not subject to taxes. Otherwise, apples-to-apples, your local dealer is $185 less (sale price + delivery fuel). Not sure what the local guy's supposed to do for you. The dealer sure doesn't want to lose a sale over the fact that his home state charges taxes and the neighboring state doesn't. VT deals with this all the time - with NH being "tax-free." (I say "tax free" because as a Vermonter, I'm still supposed to pay local taxes for purchases like this made in NH).

Have you considered any kind of legitimate way around this? Does PA offer some kind of agricultural tax exclusion that you could file for and do some ag work with the tractor? Or, can you register it for road use?

Maybe you could live with a few free services - with pick up/drop off from your place free (I'm charged $100 each way for this service from my dealer 12 miles away - 1 mile wouldn't make a difference, as they still have to strap the thing down)? I mean, having a good dealer less than a mile away isn't something many of us on this site can say. And if you look back through the threads, when tractors go bad (which they sometimes will do), having a good relationship with your dealer can be the difference between a warranty repair and having to pay out of pocket.

Not saying I can't appreciate a $1000 savings, but you're in a tough spot from where I sit. I think there's still wiggle-room with your dealer to get you back to the $600 you're willing to pay over and above the DE dealer to keep it local.

If it is a taxable purchase, aren't you still supposed to claim it in PA and pay taxes on it, even if you purchase out of state? If so, then it is pretty mutch a wash I would say. That being said, I don't mind traveling to save a few.

I go through this every year. I have a large (huge) dealer with a branch just down the street. Every year I go and price something out and tell them I don't mind a little difference becasue I like to support local dealers and they aren't even close. This year it was a 2520, 62D, 200CX. Local huge dealer was $17,200 and $7500 for my trade in, dealer an hour north..$16,400 and $9250 for my trade....I don't like supporting local to the tune of $2500 difference...

But the local guy is huge and still gives me a great pricing on parts..

First of all, congratulations on selecting the 2520, I'm sure you'll be happy with it. Technically, you will own sales tax to the state of PA either way. It's just that the DE dealer isn't obligated to collect it on behalf of a state he doesn't operate his business in. If the tax man shows up at your door, you still have to pay it. The question is; will he?

It's odd how different JD dealers approach financing with customers. I had a similar experience when I was looking to buy my 2520. The first dealer only talked about the financing options where there was no additional "buy-down". The second dealer I went to, and ultimately bought from, gave me all the options, including the lower interest rate options with a buy-down. I didn't expect the dealer to kick in for the cost of the lower rate, but when I did the math, it was clear that I was saving money over the life of the loan by paying a little extra to get 0% over 60 months. That's what I did, and I'm happy that the dealer put all the options in front of me.

I agree with you...I still think there is wiggle room but he didn't seem to to want to go that route. The plus side to this question if I have something go wrong with the tractor is that a very good friend of mine is a JD mechanic. I am going to ask the local dealer if he can come down to $20,400 at 0% for 60 I will sign today. That wil put me at paying $620 over the cost of the DE dealer.

They should go for that I would think:confused: When I went and ordered mine I told him I would order it today if he threw in a tooth bar for the bucket and he did!! I should be receiving mine today... (I hope) For me it was all about the 1st phone call, I have one dealer that is around 7mi from and the one I bought from is around 14mi away. The 1st phone call I was quoted over the phone $2500 more by the one closer than the one further away!!! So for me that was not even worth going and talking to the one closer!!!! Also in PA I believe if you own 40acres or more you can be tax exempt for agricultural use..... That one never made sense to me, just think about all of the little farms 5, 10, 15 acres that people have, kind of discriminatory in my opinion! Good luck on your tractor purchase either way!!!!

Did you show your local dealer the figures on paper, if not I would just so he sees the price on paper, see if he will meet you half way on that price. If he won't budge on his price then see if he'll work with you on prices on free pickup on warranty work, servicing, parts, purchases on attachments. If he won't if it was me I think I still would buy from the local dealer, because of how close he is and at least because of any warranty work that you might need in the next 3 or 4 years. I don't think I would trust the guy if you brought the tractor to him with him knowing he didn't get your business, unless your buddy works for him, and with the price of gas that 2 hour drive but come back to bite you. Just my 2 cents. GOOD LUCK, and I can tell you for a fact your going to love the tractor.

Recently I went through a similar sitiation (still waiting for delivery). My local dealer was very high and I tried multiple times to get a reasonable price. I told him I was giving him one last try I even showed the JD configurator prices (minus shipping etc.), but he stood his ground and said his prices were competitive.

I was extremely close to buying out of state (getting transportaion/shipping information for 15 hours away) when I decided to visit another dealer 45 minutes away one more time and received a much better quote. They even gave a JD iMatch quick hitch to seal the deal when I asked.

It never crossed my mind to return to the local dealer to show the new quote they had their chance(s).

I expect the dealer will make a fair profit on my sale. I could have saved even more money by buying out of state, but I realy do value being able to walk into a dealer look him in the eye, and press the flesh.

I just finally found one that gave me the feeling that I was the only one with a hand on my wallet

Regarding parts I'll willingly drive the extra miles to support that dealer with my future business.

Best of luck with you decision I ordered the 2520 also!
