Advice on Griffin dump trailer

I've been shopping for a dump trailer and came across the griffin brand. They look well built but I know nothing about them. My main concern is that they use a twin cylinder hoist instead of scissor type. Will this type of system work well hauling dirt or stone if...obviously...loaded properly? My only experience has been with scissor type lifts. Anyone with experience with griffin trailers your thoughts would be much appreciated as well...

Hey Drew,

I too am curious about the dual ram setup. I recently sold my 6X10 dump trailer with a scissor lift. I have been looking for a replacement 7X14. One of the trailers I have been looking at (not a Griffin) has the dual ram setup. I asked the same question as you a few months ago in this section and (as expected) I got answers all across the board. There are several threads along this line in this section, It has been useful reading through them.

My conclusion was that for me, the scissor lift is going to be best. I have had a positive experience with this style lift on the trailer that I owned for 9 years. From a hydraulic standpoint at least the plumbing is simpler and I would think more trouble free.

That said, for me, cost is a driving factor. If I find a dual ram trailer at an excellent price, I'll buy it in a heart beat.

Thanks Tim. Due to cost I'm leaning towards the Griffin with the dual ram set up. Especially since no can prove with real world experience that they don't dump as well as a scissor hoist.

I'm going back and forth between their 83x12 12k or the 83x14 14k. Main use will be for delivering firewood and I like the shorter trailer for tight areas but a 14ft could haul more wood with shorter side racks. Haven't made up my mind yet.

Go 14K. We have a Bri-Mar at my uncles place and could not imagine using one any smaller.

That's kinda my thought too. The beefier the better.

Dual rams work just fine. Where folks have problems is when dumping sticky material like clay & one side empties but the other side doesn't, you can occasionally spring the bed but it has not been a common problem with the folks around me. Generally if one side stick, both sides stick.

Those who haul grain, gravel, firewood, ... & don't try to dump with the truck/trailer at an sideways angle use them all the time without problems.

Thank you for the insight. I've been assured by Griffin themselves that they're trailers are rated to dump the rated payload and then some...but it's best to get an unbiased opinion such as yours.
