Hi,

I want to get my tractor in my backyard and need advice on how to negotiate the riprap. Ideas so far are build a ramp, fill in with dirt or crushed rock, etc. I would like to do something safe, simple and cost effective if possible. It can be temporary or permanent.

Please include suggestions regarding, materials, and techniques.

Thanks!!!

Get a 10 ton load of #57 limestone and spread over it. Not sure out there in AZ, but up here that would be about $200 delivered.

So what kind of criminal element is on the loose out there in Scottsdale, or are you in the witness protection program? I see a 6' steel fence, rock mote that even a tractor can't cross, and no houses anywhere in sight on the horizon.

Just put enough dirt in the rock to fill in the cracks and drive on up.

What kind of tractor? I would just drive it over, maybe with a winch or come along to help. I think you are short changing your machine.

Can't tell you what I would do till I know;

1- Why?
2- Do you have a FEL?
3- Do you have a BH?

You've obviously never seen a desert flash flood!

a little rock stacking (use the existing ones) to get a reasonably flat surface and just drive up it. when your done randomly toss them about and your finished.

i say just scavenge for dirt around the property. to build a ramp. but you will need to compact as you go. so things do not settle. if a flash flood nails you, ya it may take out ramp, but the rocks should still be there. other words just build a dirt ramp, as if you were going to build a dirt drive way up across and into the back yard.

a temp setup... you are just asking for $$$. if you used hard wood boards. you would be slipping all over the place.

perhaps buying 2 or 3 sets of some long trailer ramps. and then welding an extra piece of metal both sides. to connect ramps together to make them longer. the extra piece of metal the longer the better. to help reduce bending.

get a old trailer off of craigslist. chop off the wheels, axle, and springs underneath. and perhaps chop off the A frame on front of trailer. and some how winch it up over the rocks. you might need to add boards say 1"x2" boards across the trailer. to act like a grip for tractor tires.

a TLB (tractor loader backhoe) could make it up. if newbie to TLB. it would most likely be a scary ride, working backhoe and FEL and going forward. and pick tractor up off its wheels and walk it up over the riprap.

==================
what are you wanting the tractor in back yard for? just to park it? or you wanting to do something?

there are many options, to small size mini's that can drive through 30" doors (door comes off along with hinges). (assuming you do not have basement) could possibly drive through house, to dig. or like.

That rock looks pretty "on purpose". I wouldn't muck with it by moving it or filling in around it.

Are you handy? Can you weld? Maybe get some angle iron and weld up some very long "ramps" (basically, just something that will give you a flat surface with traction that you can lay over the rocks). Design them like the fold-down ramps on trailers. As long as you design them to lie on the rocks (and not try to span above them), you'll have no issues with them sagging / breaking because the rock will support the weight.
