I got the wife a nice Craftsman 3000 54" for a song (owner thought it was a POS, he had let a headlight fall on the exhaust causing a short). Now she can't stand the grass in the lawn and wants to sweep it.

So throw me your thoughts on brands, sizes, and the cold hard reality of this additional implement.

Its a case of how much crazyness you want to put up with.

Backing up a towed ground engaging implement like this is a bear and you need patience.
first get a steering knob for the tractor.
ideally you should do what I did with my old wheel horse; I had a coworker of mine build me front hitch for the
front attachment point on my 244 hydro and its been a blessing because there is no more jack knifing backing up.

If you are going to fo anything buy her the smallest cyclone rake instead and it will work well for her and it is attached to the tractors frame and becomes one with the tractor making the entire set up longer requiring longer swings in turning and backing up is simply a case of looking over your shoulderwhile holding on to the steering wheel.

The drawbacks of a tow behind are they don't get all the grass and you basically have to run over the lawn twice.

I would either go the vacuum route (Cyclone rake or Trac Vac) or cheaper is just a bagger like this that hooks on to the deck. Universal Grass Catcher (OEM190-110) at Aubuchon Hardware

Otherwise Sears has baggers that go on the back $250-300 range as another option.

We have a tow behind 42" Deere lawn sweeper that gets pulled with a golf cart. It works well, but IIRC its made by Agrifab and it is cheaper without the green paint :D.

My wife uses one we got from Sears and really likes it, but our yard is pretty wide open with no trees. My brother in law uses a big gas powered vacuum unit, but it is too big and cumbersome for us.

I have a 42"(i think) Agri-Fab. I use it less than 10 times a year. It is 16 yrs old. I had to replace the drive gear cross shaft and wheels last year. I think it was owner abuse............ I jacknifed it in reverse.

Brinly-Hardy makes most of John Deere's lawn implements, sweepers included.
