Advice for a new tractor owner

This is my first post. I have been reading the forums on this site for about a year, and have learned a lot. Armed with all this knowledge, I purchased a kubota B6200HST-D tractor and trailered it home yesterday. I would really appreciate advice on what implements I need to clear 2 acres of overgrown flat farm field. There are some small trees , and 2 foot tall weeds/grass. I got a 60" rear finish mower with the tractor, no FEL. Thanks for any help.

I'm not sure what you mean by small trees but a bush hog mower would do most of the clearing as long as the trees were in the 2" or less class. Just mow it down and keep it cut low until the weeds and small trees die off. Any small stumps could be poped up with a FEL. Then you may want to start discing it and get it ready for grass.

I agree that a bush hog will do quite a bit of it. I like using a landscape rake to gather debris, it is also good for clean up work, and for light leveling. Do not mow it down with the finish mower because they are not made for that and it will likely be damaged.

With the size tractor you have, I don't think I would use the brush hog on the two inch size trees (if that is the size of the trees,) but would cut those off flush to the ground with a chiansaw. The one inch diameter trees should be a breeze for a brush hog, sized to your machine.

Boone, thank you for reply and thread. I guess I need advice about my tractor's ability to deal with trees too big for a bush hog. These trees are 2" to 3" dia. I have read several posts on pulling stumps. Can anyone tell me if my B6200 is up to this task? It has fairly worn turf tires. What do you use to pull with, a chain? Thanks to any replies. I have searched under stump and tree removal, but didnt find much.
